Summit X 2025: Jérémie’s Ski-Doo Favourite at Snow Shoot

ski-doo summit x 2025

During our trip to Snow Shoot 2024, we had the chance to test the new 2025 models from all the brands. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, trying everything from turbo and non-turbo engines to 154-inch tracks and 146-inch freeride configurations, and comparing fixed versus flexible suspensions. Suffice it to say, the variety made for an exhilarating series of expeditions.

Ultimately, I set my sights on the Ski-Doo Summit X 2025. In my opinion, it represents the most significant technological leap, delivering unmatched agility and comfort in mountain terrain. A close second is the Polaris Patriot 9R RMK Khaos, my Polaris favourite for 2025. Both machines proved easier to handle in mountainous terrain compared to comparable precision machines. While these models may be trickier to set up for a “side hill”, they excel at maintaining precise lines over long distances. Enjoy the read!

Ski-Doo Summit X 2025: Merging Turbo Power with Agility

My favourite Ski-Doo model for 2025 did not disappoint. While it resembles last year’s version, I believe it’s a refined iteration. I tested this machine equipped with the Turbo R at high altitudes, and it never fails to amaze me. That said, I don’t think turbo is for everyone. It can be your greatest ally or your worst enemy if you’re not prepared to handle such power.

Many believe a machine can never have too much power, but I’d argue it’s better to have a sled you’re comfortable and confident with rather than one that dominates you.

Picking the Right Track and Machine for Backcountry Adventures

The Summit X 2025 isn’t available with a 146-inch track, so your options are either 154 inches or 165 inches. Personally, I’m sold on the 154-inch version. It strikes a perfect balance, offering the agility needed for technical maneuvers while maintaining enough length for deep snow performance.

The 165-inch version requires deeper snow and more open spaces to shine. If you enjoy steep, powder-covered terrain or summit-chasing, this is your pick. However, it’s trickier to maneuver if you’re aiming to master technical riding skills like “hop overs” or “bow ties” in the backcountry.

Suspension Choices: Fixed or Flexible

Personally, I prefer flexible suspension, specifically the tMotion XT with the limiter strap adjustment. Last winter, I rode a Lynx Shredder RE Turbo, so I can confidently say the Summit X is much easier for tight turns. With a 34-inch ski stance combined with the tMotion XT and Flex Edge track, the Summit X delivers exceptional control. It’s the perfect machine to help you progress in backcountry riding.

Ski Stance: A Critical Factor

The Ski-Doo Summit X 2025 features a fixed 34-inch ski stance. Riders should understand the significant impact this has on handling. For increased stability on rugged terrain, consider a 36-inch stance with premium suspension. However, be prepared to compromise on manoeuvrability.

If you enjoy tree riding, navigating tight spaces, or executing sharp turns, the Ski-Doo Summit X 2025 is an excellent choice. On the other hand, if your adventures take you off the beaten path into untracked terrain, the Lynx Shredder RE may better suit your needs.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, the Ski-Doo Summit X 850 remains the top choice for extreme backcountry expeditions in 2025. Whether turbocharged or not, this machine can be tailored to fit your riding style. Opt for the 154-inch version if you prefer technical terrain and agility, or go with the 165-inch model to conquer deep-snow peaks with optimal performance.

The Ski-Doo Summit X 850 for 2025 is a smart pick for riders of all levels. I hope I’ve shed some light on my favourite for the year.

Happy riding!
