My 2027 Ski-Doo Favorites: MXZ X-RS, Renegade X-RS and Skandic LE

Every year, I go through the same thought process when Ski-Doo unveils its new snowmobiles. In my view, there are always two types of models: those that are very good… and those that stay in my head for months. In the 2027 Ski-Doo lineup, I found three machines that genuinely spoke to me when I tested them at the SnowShoot. In this article, I present the “20th Anniversary” editions of the 2027 MXZ X-RS and 2027 Renegade X-RS; then I wrap up with the 2027 Skandic LE. Each one has its own personality and contributes to redefining my love for winter.

Let’s talk as passionate riders, and I’ll explain why I would choose these snowmobiles… even with my eyes closed.

I’ll be honest: the new ROTAX 600RR E-TEC won me over.

I tried it in more than one model. And each time, I came to the same conclusion: this engine has something special. It’s smooth and very powerful. If it impressed me at 7,000 feet of elevation, it will undoubtedly be an excellent choice on Quebec trails.

The power curve, along with the mechanical symphony of this 130-horsepower engine, is simply sublime.

For 2027, maximum RPM has been increased by 150 RPM, oil consumption is reduced by up to 20%, and fuel efficiency can improve by up to 5% thanks to ECO Smart mode. It requires the new blue XPS E-TEC MAX oil. Its odour is more discreet, it’s compatible with your current XPS oil, and it’s offered at the same price. Simple and effective.

But a great engine means nothing without the right chassis.

The combination of RAS RX suspension, Pilot RX skis, and fully adjustable front shocks specific to the 20th Anniversary edition turns this sled into a true trail weapon. I was impressed by how it handled tight, rough, technical trails. It stays planted while remaining extremely agile. This version of the Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS truly inspired confidence.

The 20th Anniversary edition, with its Yellow Circuit colour and pearlescent finish, looks stunning in the sun. Yellow accents on the snow flap and shock springs enhance the visual appeal, while the Evo Stinger badge on the front, the special handlebar pad, and the red race plates add enough visual punch to seal the deal for me.

Honestly, if you enjoy riding aggressively rather than simply cruising, it’s hard not to fall in love with this snowmobile.

2027 Renegade X-RS 20th Anniversary: 900 ACE Turbo R Power on the Trails

My test ride took place on a hardened trail that had been groomed the day before. Temperatures ranged from -10 °C (14 °F) to 5 °C (41 °F). Exactly the kind of day when conditions change at every corner.

Whether on softened sections under midday sun or shaded areas still rock hard, the Renegade X-RS with the 900 ACE Turbo R put a smile on my face throughout the entire ride. Power delivery is linear and very present. You exit a corner, squeeze the throttle, and it launches you toward the next one with almost surprising control.

The addition of RAS RX suspension last year greatly enhances balance and handling. I didn’t have to adjust the Smart-Shox system at all, as it proved ideal for my riding style and the conditions encountered. “Launch Mode” may not be the most useful feature in the world, but my ego definitely enjoyed it.

2027 Skandic LE: REV Gen5 Platform and 600RR E-TEC for Utility Use

I have to admit something: although it’s very popular with its target audience, this was a first for me. I had never ridden a Skandic before.

The 2027 Skandic has undergone a serious refresh thanks to its migration to the REV Gen5 platform. I really like its look, and I found it surprisingly maneuverable, even on trails.

I appreciate the decision to equip it with foldable mirrors and an ultra-flexible windshield to ease passage through tight areas. The flexible upper section can be replaced without tools, and if replacement is needed, it should retail for around thirty dollars. Passenger handles have also been redesigned and are now positioned slightly closer on each side of the body.

I had a great time weaving between trees and climbing at low speed outside marked trails. Ergonomics are excellent, even for someone of my build. The 600RR E-TEC engine suits this model perfectly. Its smoothness and flexibility make it an excellent choice, both for work in low range and for groomed trails.

I never expected such a predictable and enjoyable riding feel from this type of machine. I found that the 600RR E-TEC engine, paired with the uMotion rear suspension, delivers a level of ride comfort that genuinely surprised me.

Why These Three 2027 Ski-Doo Models Stand Out

Three machines… three very different missions… one common result: pure enjoyment.

Depending on what you’re looking for, these three 2027 Ski-Doo snowmobiles each make a strong case.

You might choose the MXZ X-RS for the adrenaline rush. The Renegade X-RS is ideal for covering miles with confidence. Or you may opt for the Skandic LE to get work done… or simply rediscover riding from a different angle.

Whatever your choice, each of these 2027 Ski-Doo models deserves a spot on your shortlist. As for me, I’d already line up for a second test ride.
