As snowmobilers, we always look forward to February every year. This tradition is due to the unveiling of new snowmobile models by our beloved manufacturer from Valcourt. Here’s my summary of the highly anticipated 2026 Ski-Doo lineup.
Context and Key Innovations of the 2026 Ski-Doo Snowmobiles
Let’s face it: we’re still in a post-pandemic world where the situation has completely changed. While dealer showrooms were practically empty before, we’re now seeing the opposite reality. The lack of snow in 2024 and the high cost of new snowmobiles have slowed sales. As a result, last spring, we saw cautious consumers holding back on pre-orders.
Ski-Doo is well aware of this, but, true to its nature, it hasn’t given up. That said, I wasn’t expecting any major surprises for the 2026 model year. Instead, the Quebec-based manufacturer has opted for a refinement approach, which it does exceptionally well. Ski-Doo has chosen to improve what was already near perfection, much to our delight.
The 2026 Ski-Doo Expedition Moves to the REV Gen5 Platform!
This probably isn’t a huge surprise, but Ski-Doo is gradually transitioning its snowmobiles to its latest-generation chassis. As a result, the 2026 Expedition models will now feature the REV Gen5 platform, along with a more modern design. Some might say it’s about time! After all, everyone knows this model offers versatility and exceptional capability in all conditions.
With this transition, the 2026 Ski-Doo Expedition will also feature a brand-new windshield, providing excellent wind protection. Additionally, this move allows for the integration of new LED headlights. Emitting over 4,800 lumens, these lights offer approximately three times the brightness of the previous model.
Another interesting addition is the fourth engine mount (for two-stroke engines). This will improve CVT transmission alignment, reduce noise, and extend the lifespan of the drive belt.
The New uMOTION Suspension: Enhanced Comfort and Control
The SC-5U suspension makes way for the new uMOTION suspension. This promises the perfect balance between off-trail flotation and on-trail control. The new geometry will maintain ideal track tension on the 2026 Ski-Doo models.
To achieve this, the uMOTION suspension offers an additional 27 mm of travel and a load capacity of 135 lb—an increase of 10 lb. The suspension arms have also been lengthened for better control. The front arm is now 104 mm longer, while the rear arm is 14 mm longer. These changes are said to improve transfer control on trails by 20%, according to Ski-Doo.
Finally, the anchor points on the 2026 Ski-Doo models have also been modified. This update will make maintenance easier and track replacement faster.
Front Suspension Paired with uMOTION:
To maximize comfort, stability, and traction, the 2026 Ski-Doo Expedition SE and LE models will come equipped with Pilot 7.4 skis. Additionally, the spindles have been redesigned with revised geometry. This revision will minimize steering effort, especially in deep snow and at low speeds.
The New Crosscut Track: Optimized Performance and Traction
The 2026 model year marks the arrival of a new track for the Expedition lineup. Ski-Doo introduces the Crosscut 154 × 20 × 1.5 track, which will now provide traction for this versatile snowmobile. At purchase, you’ll have the option of a standard or studded version.
The lugs are positioned at the ends for better weight distribution and improved traction. The window openings are larger for better cooling of the track and sliders. Additionally, the tread reduces noise (1.7 dB less) and vibration.
The LinQ Storage Box: Increased Modularity and Capacity
For 2026, the new Ski-Doo Expedition SE models will come with a new ultra-wide LinQ utility box, offering a storage capacity of 135 L/35.7 US gallons. It’s highly resistant to cold temperatures and impacts, lockable, and features multiple internal attachment points. Four LinQ mounts are located on the top for attaching accessories like a fuel can. It can also be split into a 60 L box.
Explore the 3 Ski-Doo Expedition 2026 Models: SE, LE, and XTREME
Ski-Doo now offers three versions of the 2026 Expedition. First, the SE, the most equipped, will offer top-of-the-line features as standard. The versatile utility-sport LE version will come with either a 20-inch or 24-inch track. Finally, the high-performance XTREME edition promises unmatched off-trail capabilities.
Migration of NEO and Sport Variants to REV Gen5
We were thrilled to learn that the NEO and Sport snowmobiles are migrating to the REV Gen5 chassis. These models will also benefit from new exclusive LED headlights.
The Backcountry Sport receives the cMotion X rear suspension introduced in 2024 on the Backcountry. Meanwhile, the Expedition Sport will be equipped with the new uMOTION suspension. For these models, you’ll have the choice between Rotax ACE four-stroke and two-stroke EFI engines.
A More Refined 600 EFI Engine
Naturally, the move to the REV Gen5 chassis allows for the addition of a fourth engine mount. This significantly reduces vibration and improves belt alignment. Additionally, the electronic oil pump ensures more precise injection, which should result in lower fuel consumption. Finally, the revised exhaust (40 hp and 55 hp versions) will offer improved and refined sound. You’ll be happy to know that, despite these changes, the price remains the same as the 2025 models.
2026 Updates for Ski-Doo Summit Snowmobiles
Many of you know that weight is the worst enemy of a mountain snowmobile. For 2026, Ski-Doo has achieved another feat by lightening its Summit models.
The 2026 Summit is designed to be the most agile, with a weight reduction of up to 14 lb (Summit X). To achieve this, Ski-Doo has changed several components. They’ve shortened the tunnel and heat exchanger and lightened the snow flap and rear light. Rest assured, each component has been carefully designed to reduce weight without compromising durability.
Additionally, the 2026 Summit X models will feature new front A-arms. Made from high-strength 6,061-T6 aluminum, these will reduce weight by 0.5 lb. Plus, the finish is a visual delight, worthy of the Ski-Doo name.
A New PowderMax Ultra-Light Track
The 2026 Summit X models will also feature a new PowderMax Ultra-Light 154 × 16 × 3.0 track, which is lighter. It should offer excellent traction despite being 2 lb lighter. Note that this track is currently only available in a 154-inch length. That said, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more lengths available next year.
A Shorter Tunnel and Heat Exchanger
For the 154 models, the tunnel has been shortened by 45 mm (1.88 in.) and the heat exchanger by 239 mm (9.5 in.). The 165 models see a reduction of 61 mm (2.5 in.) in the tunnel and 348 mm (13.75 in.) in the heat exchanger. By reducing the tunnel size, Ski-Doo has managed to cut 5 lb from the snowmobile’s weight. And, since there will be less coolant in the heat exchanger, another 2 lb can be shaved off.
A 32-Inch Ski Stance!
But that’s not all! Ski-Doo is pushing the limits further by offering a 32-inch ski stance on its 2026 Summit X models with the Expert package. To achieve this, engineers have introduced the all-new Twin Link steering system. This system isn’t mounted on rubber, which should create a more connected feel with the Summit.
Primarily, the Twin Link system helps maintain precise handling, especially on steep slopes. This should provide a truly direct connection with the snowmobile. Thanks to the 32-inch stance, the angle needed to reach the sled’s balance point is reduced.
Is Ski-Doo Refining the 2026 Freeride?
The 2026 Ski-Doo Freeride also sees changes, just like its siblings. The weight reduction for this model is slightly less significant. But this snowmobile is attractive with its Scandie Blue colour scheme.
The 850 E-TEC Turbo R Engine Now Available Year-Round
I have good news to share! The Summit Adrenaline with the Edge package will now be available year-round with the 180 hp 850 E-TEC Turbo R engine. Until now, this powerful two-stroke engine was exclusive to spring pre-orders.
New Group Feature for 2026 Ski-Doo Connectivity
The built-in GPS on 2026 Ski-Doo snowmobiles introduces the Group feature. This new utility allows you to share your location and those of your group members in real time. Ski-Doo riders can now locate their friends on the map without needing a phone connection or cellular network, within a range of up to 1.6 km (1 mi.) in favourable terrain. It’s an ideal addition to group adventures, especially for mountain riders who want peace of mind in the backcountry.
New Standard and Retrocompatible Accessory
The Group feature will be available in the US and Canada. It comes standard on all 2026 models equipped with the 10.25-inch display. If you have an older model, you can purchase the accessory as long as you have a 10.25-inch display. This way, all group members can enjoy it! The built-in GPS system will also benefit from other improvements, such as the addition of altitude and map scale.
BRP GO! Integration
For a complete navigation experience, connect your phone to your snowmobile’s display and use the free BRP GO! app. You’ll have access to more features, such as route planning, step-by-step navigation, and points of interest.
App Updates and Additional Features
BRP GO! continues to update and offer new features. In addition to improved route creation, you can now add additional stops to a route during a trip. This makes it an indispensable tool if you’re looking for a powerful navigation solution.
The Vibe and Vibe Universal communication systems have also seen updates thanks to BRP GO!. You can now manage several device functions from the mobile app, such as microphone sensitivity, equalizer presets, and software updates.
Ski-Doo Renegade 2026: Enhanced RAS RX Suspension
Introduced last year on select MXZ models, the new RAS RX front suspension revolutionized Ski-Doo snowmobile handling. Check out my colleague Denis Lavoie’s article to learn all about this new suspension.
This year, Ski-Doo is extending it to all 2026 Renegade models exclusive to spring pre-orders. Its incredible efficiency is said to reduce pitch in corners by 18%, according to the manufacturer. This complete suspension is designed for aggressive riders. That said, typical Renegade riders cover long daily distances. This is why engineers have opted for Pilot X skis. These dual-keel skis offer the perfect combination for tackling rough trails with precision.
A Significant Change for the 2026 Ski-Doo Backcountry
At its launch, the RAS RX front suspension was only available on the Backcountry X-RS. For 2026, Ski-Doo is integrating it into all Backcountry variants (43-inch version), both in spring pre-orders and in-season models.
Ski-Doo Expands Pilot RX Skis to More Models in 2026
I was pleased to learn that the Pilot RX skis and RAS RX suspension will finally be available together. Ski-Doo is offering this combination on its 2026 MXZ Adrenaline models with and without the Blizzard package. As a result, these in-season snowmobiles will benefit from more precise trail handling.
Ski-Doo 2026: A Thoughtful and High-Performance Evolution
In conclusion, the 2026 model year marks a significant step for Ski-Doo, with continuous improvements that enhance performance, comfort, and versatility across its snowmobile lineup. Whether it’s the introduction of the REV Gen5 platform on the Expedition, the new uMOTION suspension, or the Crosscut track, Ski-Doo once again demonstrates its commitment to innovation and user satisfaction. Snowmobilers, whether they prefer trails, backcountry, or long expeditions, will find something to love in the 2026 models.
The Summit snowmobiles, meanwhile, benefit from significant weight reductions, with lighter components like the shortened tunnel and new PowderMax Ultra-Light track, while maintaining their agility and mountain performance. With technological advancements like the Group connectivity feature and more powerful engines, Ski-Doo continues to refine the foundation it has worked hard to build, offering an increasingly refined and tailored riding experience for its enthusiasts. A year that confirms Ski-Doo remains true to its heritage while evolving with care and precision.
