Review of the Keweenaw suit by Klim

For the winter 2021-2022, Klim Canada provided me with one of their two-piece snowmobile suits to try out, the Keweenaw suit.

Description

This is the warmest, most versatile and durable set Klim has ever produced.

It was designed to take into consideration our recent winters which have seen a wide range of temperatures from freezing cold to mild, from snow to rain.

If you look at the features of this package, you can see that Klim used quality materials and considered the needs of snowmobilers:

  • A Gore-Tex shell known for being breathable and keeping us dry even in the rain;
  • 3M Thinsulate 200g insulation known for its warmth and minimal weight;
  • 3M Scotchlite reflective material to be seen well in the evening and at night on and off the snowmobile;
  • Ventilation in strategic areas;
  • Insulated sleeveless jacket that can be removed if you get too hot;
  • Several pockets (7) that will certainly be appreciated.

Moreover, the material used to insulate this suit has flotation properties which should allow us to float for a while on the water. In addition, water outlets are installed in strategic places to allow water to escape from the garment.

Comments after the test

For the Keweenaw pants

Depending on the type of riding we do and the temperature, these pants are a 3-in-1. We can detach the insulating part of the top and we end up with pants with straps.

We can also take down the straps and the velcro on each side, allowing us to adjust the pants on our size. It is very warm, I like the position of the two pockets on the front. There is a zipper on each side of the pants from top to bottom.

At the boot level, the gaiter also has a zipper that makes it easy to attach to the boot. The pants have a Gore-Tex membrane that wicks away moisture and kept me dry. The pants also have reflective material in relevant places.

The jacket has two large inside pockets and one pocket on each side of the front.

The two bottom pockets are large enough to hold several items.

As the pants have two large pockets in the front, these are the ones I used to put my important items.
The coat is quite warm, there are several possibilities of openings if you are hot under the arms and in the back.

It is also equipped with a Gore-tex membrane that wicks away moisture and kept me dry. Rain or wet snow never worried me.

Inside, there is a sleeveless jacket that is detachable and adds insulation. It looks great without the jacket. However, on very cold days, I could feel my arms cooler than the rest of my body. Not to the point of freezing, but with a slight discomfort.

When you take off the jacket, you find another pocket in the top of the coat on the left side.

On the other hand, even if the jacket is well insulated, during some of the cold weather we had this winter, I had to put on an under layer to stay warm unless I was very active on the snowmobile.

This jacket also has a lot of reflective material. This outfit was the envy of many of my fellow snowmobilers and I really appreciated it.

Finally, I would like to thank Klim and motoneiges.ca for allowing me to do this test.
