2023 Ski-Doo: trail snowmobiles

When February comes around, we get excited about our job because we are at the peak of the presentation of the new models from the different snowmobile manufacturers. This is the time when our sleeping hours are also shortened, because the feeling of exhilaration of bringing you the latest news about the new models is incomparable.

Even if we are speculating, year after year, Ski-Doo pulls a rabbit out of its hat and surprises us with its continuous audacity and ingenuity.

The year 2023 marks the twentieth year of the introduction of the REV chassis that revolutionized the snowmobile industry. Isn’t it only logical that a new generation be introduced? Well, it is, because once again, the designers at our Valcourt-based manufacturer have gone from surprise to surprise for the new edition.

The fifth generation of the REV chassis

For 2023, some snowmobiles in the more specific trail category will be implemented with the new REV Gen5 chassis. While most of us loved the previous generation, Ski-Doo has revealed a new platform that is narrower, more agile and more refined. It is important to mention that the REV Gen5 chassis will be implemented in Ski-Doo snowmobiles with the 850 E-Tec engine only.

Key highlights of the REV Gen5

  • Revised intake system
  • New engine subframe with 4th engine mount
  • New easier to remove drive axle
  • Easy access to service areas
  • Optional 10.25-inch color touch screen with BRP Connect (spring option)

The best performing suspension in the industry

Ski-Doo offers the option of equipping its new 2023 XR-S snowmobile with the coveted Smart Shox semi-active suspension. It instantly reads the terrain and the rider’s commands to automatically adjust your suspension up to 50 times/second for an optimal ride in all conditions. This addition also allows you to pair this performance snowmobile with Pilot X or TX adjustable skis.

As if that wasn’t enough, new Ski-Doo Renegade owners will have 3 track options to equip their new ride.

The return of the legend… or almost!

This title is a bit misleading, I apologize. Ski-Doo had announced the return of the Mach Z only for 2022 and they kept their word. However, there is a less famous name at Ski-Doo that is making a comeback. The Blizzard is back!

The Ski-Doo MXZ Blizzard is coming back for 2023 and it is a fusion between the TNT and the Z that disappeared from the catalog. This reappearance, presented with the new REV Gen5 platform, is equipped with the 850 E-Tec and will be equipped with KYB Pro 36 shocks.

Launch mode for lightning acceleration!

Although the Ski-Doo Mach Z will not be back for 2023, one of its features will be available as an option for 2023. For spring orders only, the Launch Mode system will be available on the 900 ACE TurboR 4-stroke engines. Because it’s one of Ski-Doo’s ACE engines, it has three driving modes – Eco, Standard and Sport. To activate the launch mode on a stopped/idling snowmobile, the rider pushes the drive mode button toward Sport and holds it for a few seconds until he or she hears the engine speed increase to 1800 rpm.

At this point, the driver presses the brake hard, then mashes the throttle to the handlebars. The engine revs quickly to 3400 rpm – just below clutch engagement – and holds it there, allowing the turbo charge to run without risking belt burn.

Obviously, the engine spits, sputters, pops and crackles as it waits for the brake to be released. Frankly, it’s quite a feeling to be sitting on a snowmobile that’s just waiting to explode and express all its power on the starting line.

In conclusion, trail sled enthusiasts will get their money’s worth and those who order early will certainly have many nights of dreaming about their new Ski-Doo Renegade or MXZ snowmobile.
