2023 Lynx, a first look and my impressions!

It’s with great pleasure that I went to take a look at the new 2023 Lynx models during the first stop of the BRP/LYNX tour.  The manufacturer was in my area on February 19 and 20. LYNX is offering three models this year for spring sale.

Several dealers of the region were present including https://sportsdrc.com/ and https://www.rspenceetfils.ca/fr/ . They were very happy to answer our questions and discuss with us.

The 2023 Lynx models on display at this event were :

Rave RE 137 inches 850 E-TEC (trail)

This snowmobile, still equipped with the 165 HP 850 E-TEC, is identical in almost every way to the one we first saw last year. It is still beautiful and perfect. Its performance, I know it, and just looking at it and talking about it with the people there, the adrenaline I got from driving it for the first time in the spring of 2021, comes back to me.

XTerrain RE 146 inch 900 ACE Turbo R (trail and off-trail)

It’s going to be similar to the Ski-doo Backcountry, but with two engine choices. I lingered over this little new one that has it in it. The one on display that day has a 180 HP turbocharged 900 R 4 stroke engine.  It’s going to rock on a big time if I compare it to the Rave RE I tried last year… Note that you can choose to take it with the 850 E-TEC 2-stroke engine of 165 HP which is probably less heavy.

I can’t wait to try this one! Especially with 2 inches of studs on its PowderMax track. I’m sure she’ll be walking on the heel of the track and the adrenaline will be pumping…Can’t wait to see its off-trail performance as well, with its 4-stroke engine weighing more than the 2-stroke.

XTerrain Brutal 154 850 E-TEC (trail and off-trail)

This version, with a 20-inch track and an 850 E-TEC engine, will probably be similar to the Ski-doo Expedition Extreme in my opinion. Certainly a notch above it, without wanting to denigrate the Ski-doo model of course. There’s no doubt about it anyway, the Lynx line is a cut above all its cousins at Ski-doo in my opinion. The snowmobile is also equipped with an air radiator with a fan for more cooling.

Shredder DS 154″ 850 E-TEC (off-trail)

This one is an off-trail version and replaces last year’s Boondocker. It is mounted on the new chassis which is similar to the new Gen 5 at Ski-doo. It is equipped with the new LED headlights that we have been waiting for. It comes with either the 165 HP 850 E-TEC or the 180 HP 850 E-TEC Turbo R.

Personally, I am not an off-trail snowmobiler. So I am limited on what I can say about these models. However, those who have ridden the Boondocker have told me that a Lynx is more about getting on the snow than a similar machine from Ski-doo.

So here are my first impressions of the range. They are all great machines as you can see. I like them all, but my favorite will probably be the Xterrain RE 900 R Turbo… or the Brutal… or the Rave… or the Shredder… I’m not sure yet!

For more details and complete specifications, I invite you to read my colleague Cyndi Martin’s article, visit the company’s website or visit a Ski-doo dealer near you.

Also, I will certainly have the pleasure to talk to you about it in another article when I will do the tests. See you soon and enjoy your ride dear fellow snowmobilers.
