Review of the CKX Contact Edge helmet: Among My Favourites to Date!

When I snowmobile, it’s imperative for me to be comfortable with my protective gear. I assume it’s the same for you, isn’t it? The countless hours spent on our sleds demand clothing and safety equipment that ensure memorable experiences. Does the CKX Contact Edge full-face helmet meet my requirements? That’s what you’ll find out in this review!

The 2024 season marks the second year of production for the Contact Edge helmet. Drawing on the expertise gained in recent years by this manufacturer, CKX offers us a more simplistic helmet. This qualification is primarily in comparison to the Titan and Mission models, which have garnered many followers.

The CKX Contact EDGE Helmet

For my part, I specifically chose the Edge version of the CKX Contact helmet. I based this decision simply on my desire to own a helmet that stands out from the Solid model, which lacks any finesse with its single black colour. My more extroverted personality demanded some additional embellishments to suit my particular tastes.

The unit I selected is covered in matte black and adorned with decorations in shades of grey and turquoise. Nothing too eccentric, but just enough to stand out from the crowd.

A Heated Visor, I Wouldn’t Go Without It Anymore!

I remember my early days in snowmobiling, wearing my uncles’ helmets. They reflected the technologies of the time. It was rare back then to have a heated visor. So, our visors would fog up quickly. Oh, the height of misfortune for our vision!

Nowadays, the majority of full-face helmets on the market come with a heated visor. It’s become commonplace, as they say. That’s precisely what the CKX Contact Edge helmet benefits from. This visor is highly effective. Despite experiencing extreme cold, it shows no signs of failure. Plus, a light indicator at the front shows its proper functioning.

Furthermore, this visor provides one of the largest fields of vision I’ve ever experienced. It’s a safety aspect that I appreciated from the first few kilometres. This wide peripheral vision is one of the standout features of this helmet. It’s undeniable!

A Photochromic Visor

Personally, I have sensitive eyes to the intense rays of the sun. Consequently, I decided to equip my CKX Contact Edge helmet with a photochromic visor. This visor is made of plastic treated with molecules that change their structure when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Thus, the tint of the visor adapts by becoming darker in the presence of UV light. Conversely, the visor returns to clear when UV light is no longer detected. The significant advantage of this photochromic visor is its versatility. There’s no need to wear sunglasses because this visor takes care of everything by adapting to the brightness.

The photochromic visor is available among the accessories in the Kimpex catalogue. Believe me, it’s worth the cost.

Excellent Seal

The Contact Edge helmet offers excellent sealing in every aspect. To begin, a slight pressure ensures that the visor is securely fixed when folded down. Then, the chin curtain, held in place by Velcro straps, prevents cold air from entering the helmet. The result: a highly effective helmet that effectively shields us from wind whistling, cold, and noise.

I can confidently assert that this helmet is one of my favourites to date. It’s straightforward and provides everything I desire.

A Small Downside!

When I attempted to remove the inner lining and cheek pads, I made a sad realization. They are held in place by Velcro straps. Personally, I don’t like this idea! The adhesion to the inner polystyrene shell is almost non-existent. The result is almost disastrous when I try, as good as I can, to remove the inner components. I would have greatly appreciated a push-button system like the majority of helmets on the market.

In conclusion, while not perfect, the CKX Contact Edge helmet is undoubtedly one to consider. If you’re like me and looking for a helmet that won’t break the bank, you won’t be disappointed!
