Widescape, a new stand-up snowmobile!

A revolutionary new snowmobile is coming in 2023, yes a snowmobile that can be driven standing up. The Widescape WS250 was invented in Quebec, more precisely in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, by motorsports and thrill-seekers. Their prototype was born about twenty years ago and it is after several modifications and years of work, the Widescape that we know now is finally commercialized.

Widescape

Widescape is a snowmobile that was designed for off-trail riding and to be very maneuverable. The Widescape WS250 weighs only 200 lbs, making it the lightest snowmobile on the market. It will challenge you physically and allow you to discover new and unexplored places. Whether it’s in deep snow, in the woods, or on very narrow trails, it will get you where you want to go.

The mechanics:

With a 242cc, liquid-cooled electronically injected 20 HP engine coupled to a CVT transmission from CVTech-IBC, the Widescape can reach speeds of 65 to 70 km/h. This small engine is very quiet and consumes only between 2.5 and 3 litres per hour. Equipped with an 8-litre tank, this snowmobile ranges from 2.5 to 3 hours. The track, custom-made by Soucy, is 105” long by 12” wide and is equipped with 1.5” crampons. Its monoski, 12” wide, has a large central keel and a small one on each side, which follows the same profile as the track. To complete the package, a suspension with 140 mm of travel in the front and 100 mm in the back help absorb shocks.

Chassis:

The chassis and frame are made entirely of aluminum and are covered with HDPE plastics, resistant to impact and cold, all finished with an impeccable design. On the driving platform, there is an anti-slip surface that ensures the effective stability of the driver’s feet. As for the handlebars, the lift bar can be adjusted to a height of 30 mm. The presence of a thumb throttle (ATV type) ensures ease of use and perfect power control. Finally, a 4-inch screen gives the driver all the necessary information. For example the speed, engine temperature, low battery warning, engine anomaly, low fuel warning and clock.

Widescape preliminary trial:

Having had the chance to try the Widescape WS250 for about 20 minutes, I can confirm that it is totally different from anything I had tried before. For most people, it only takes about 15 minutes to master the ride. For those who ride enduro bikes and mountain bikes, you will have an advantage in terms of balance and handling. Stand-up riding is physical, immersive and very challenging. The Widescape WS250 will give its new owners hours of fun, I’m sure.

If I have the chance to do long-term testing, I will be happy to make my recommendations. I’ll also share the pros and cons with you.

I would like to thank all the people at Widescape for their hospitality and generosity.
