Testing Thermal Socks

Hello ! This winter, I tested the Thermal socks to see if it would solve my feet moisture problem.

During my rides, it often happens that my socks become very moist, which is uncomfortable, and after some time, my feet get cold.

Also, I often go for long-distance rides and sometimes, under extreme cold temperatures. So, I needed socks that provide warmth and expel moisture.

Then, I had to look at technical socks. In this market, we find 4 types of socks :

Ultralight Socks

Content : 42 % Polyester, 34 % Polyamide Nylon, 16 % Polypropylene, 6 % Merino Wool, 2 % Elastane.

Made of dual Polyamide and Polypropylène panel for extreme resistance to cold and active management of moisture produced by perspiration.

Active / Mountain Socks

Content : 73 % Polyester ThermoCool, 24 % Polyamide Nylon, 2 % Elastane, 1 % Silver.

Made of ADVANSA ThermoCool microfiber, the world’s fastest moisture evaporating fabric.

Designed for off-trail snowmobilers.

Active / Race Socks

Content : 45 % Polyamide Nylon, 35 % Merino Wool, 18 % Polypropylene, 2 % Elastane.

  • Keep your feet comfortable and dry at all times.
  • Made of Isolfil yarn designed to keep skin dry, with built-in polypropylene fibers that retain warm air and slow loss of body heat.
  • Designed for snowmobilers with a sporty type of riding that could make them perspire more than touring riders. Usually, those active riders will not go for long-distance rides and they will not need socks as warm as the Thermal socks.

Thermal Socks

Content : 50 % Polyester Thermolite, 32 % Polyamide Nylon, 13 % Merino Wool, 3 % Acrylic, 2 % Elastane.

  • Socks designed for extreme cold.
  • Same thickness than other thermal socks on the market, but lighter, warmer and better moisture-wicking performance.
  • Designed for short or long rides.

The Thermal socks I tested were very efficient.

My feet never got cold, even at -30 °C and they always remained dry.

Even in relays, I kept my boots on to check out their performance.

My feet have never overheated or never became very moist. On few occasions, at freezing temperatures, I felt some moisture, but never enough to get cold feet and also, this light moisture quickly disappeared.

So, if you experience feet perspiration problems, these socks are your solution. And you will increase your chances if you wear boots that also let moisture evacuate. At first, we wonder if our feet will not get cold; the socks are thin but they are really efficient.
