Testing the RollerSki B-2006 from Qualipièces for Pilot TS skis

The revolutionary Ski-Doo Pilot TS skis have been introduced for the 2015-2016 season and many snowmobilers wondered if they could install the self-retracting wheel system despite the adjustable runner height. The answer is yes ! Qualipièces designers have made the necessary changes to current models in order to create the B-2006 model, especially adapted for the new Pilot TS skis.

Installation

Personally, I think that installing the RollerSki on Pilot TS skis requires medium level of skill. Most of the steps are rather simple and instructions are clear. You will need more mechanical skill when the main axle of the RollerSki must be inserted through the ski, the spindle and the quick adjust system of the runner. It may takes a few times to get the right alignment because there are many components. We noticed that this step was easier to succeed with the ski resting on the ground rather than up in the air. We need only few usual tools for the installation. Motoneiges.ca team members have made a detailed video of the installation of the B-2006 kit from Qualipieces and you can watch it by clicking here  https://youtu.be/LIu5tye1r38 .

Usage

Usage of the RollerSki for Pilot TS skis is similar to other Qualipieces models. To deploy the wheel to the ground, you only have to push the rod outside the wheel with your foot and to lift up the front of the ski with the handle. To disengage the RollerSki, just lift up the front end of the ski, either to slightly tilt the snowmobile sideways to clear skis from ground, or to simply touch a soft surface like snow and the wheel will retract. Usage of the wheel system makes piloting very easy on hard surface, like at the gas station or on parking lot. Along with making these moves much safer, the RollerSki system reduces the effort required to move the snowmobile and prevents backaches.

Evaluation of the product

The RollerSki B-2006 kit for Pilot TS skis is a prime product that is very well designed. The materials used and the mechanical components are durable and of excellent quality, which will allow snowmobilers to use it with confidence during many years. Since the RollerSki system uses the axle of the spindle as main support, we can immediately feel the rigidity of the kit and the strenght of the product. The weight of the snowmobile front end lies on the wheels and no bending load is transferred to the ski. Also, this type of accessory can easily be transferred from a snowmobile to another when the owner changes his vehicle.

Another important element to consider and due to the unique configuration of the Pilot TS skis, the RollerSki kit will have to be disassembled each time the runner will be replaced. Besides this, the addition of the RollerSki to a snowmobile greatly improves the riding experience and the handling on pavement. Once a snowmobiler has experienced the advantages of self-retractable wheels on his machine, he can hardly ride without it afterwards. Personally, it is obvious that I will want this kit installed on my next long-term trial snowmobile next season.

In conclusion, I would like to thank Qualipièce for allowing me to run this test on the RollerSki B-2006 kit for Pilot TS skis on our long-term trial snowmobile, the 2016 MXZ Blizzard.
