Officials at East Coast Snocross (ECS) and Quebec-based Super Competition Motorsport (SCM) are excited to announce the newly-created Triple Crown, a three-race series for Pro and Pro Lite riders from both sides of the border at familiar sites already utilized by each group.
The first leg of this truly international rivalry is scheduled for Jan. 12-13 at Airborne Raceway in Plattsburgh, NY; round two will take place in Louiseville, QC, on Feb. 2-3, a regular stop on the SCM tour; while the finale will be held during the prestigious Grand Prix de Valcourt in Quebec on February 15-17.
This new high-stakes trifecta offers a purse of over $7,500 and could approach $10,000 before Round 1 goes green. There will be two classes within the Triple Crown, one for Pro riders and one for Pro Lite. Points will be awarded during qualifying rounds, with the top 15 riders advancing on to the final. Pro riders will battle for 20 grueling laps in their final, while Pro Lite riders will run 15.
These exciting "battles within the weekend" offer more excitement for fans, adding drama to an already intense weekend of championship points racing. It also pits the top talent from Quebec, New England, New York and points beyond against one another for a trophy and international bragging rights.
"This is something we feel will really spice up these already exciting race weekends," said ECS General Manager Shawn Longbook. "The SCM series is loaded with talent in both Pro and Pro Lite, just as we are in our ECS pit area. Whenever the two sanctioning bodies have partnered in the past, the results have been some incredible racing. I’m confident the Triple Crown will deliver more of the same."
All sleds in both Pro and Pro Lite must conform to current ISR rules. As is the case with both series on a weekly basis, safety is a top priority for all racers.
Pro Riders to watch from the SCM circuit include veterans Maxime Taillefer and Dave Asselin, Donovan Asselin, Jean-Sebastien Cote and Francois Pare. Pro Lite riders to keep an eye on include Franky Pare, Patrick Brodeur, Michael Ouellette, David Tremblay and Shan Pepin.
Pro riders from the ECS series to follow include defending champion Danny Poirier, former champion Mathieu Morin (both from Quebec, ironically), North Dakota native Derek Ellis, Lucas Brunelle and Corin Todd. Pro Lite riders to watch include Jesse James Bonaduce, Jake daSilva, Leo Patenaude, Andrew Bailey and Adam Sedlmeier.
East Coast Snocross, presented by Woody’s Traction and AMSOIL, is the sanctioning body for snowmobile racing in the northeastern United States.
