Kimpex is giving me the chance once again this year to try out their CKX brand of winter clothing. So in this report, I’ll tell you about the Ungava coat, the Muk lite Evo boots, the Yukon gloves and I’ll remind you about the Mission helmet I’ve been using since last year.
Ungava coat
The first thing that impresses about this coat is its lightness. It is so thin, you would think it would not be very warm. And yet, when I tried it at -15 C, I was not cold at all, but at -25 C it would be better to wear an undercoat to be comfortable. The special thing about this jacket is that there is a space in the back to put a Del light, which has the effect of increasing safety in dark weather or at night. You should know that the Del light is sold separately. In milder weather, two zippered vents on each side under the arms allow you to adjust your comfort. Muk Lite Evolution boot
These boots are very light (2.8 Lb). They are lined in the front for a better fit and are very warm (-85 C). The sole is made with a rubber insert for better durability. I found them very comfortable and warm. Here is the link to the Kimpex catalog.
Yukon gloves
I have been wearing these gloves this winter and so far I am very pleased. These gloves are waterproof and well ventilated, allowing moisture to escape. The inside of the hand is leather all the way to the fingertips. They fit your hands well, allowing you good dexterity and they are easy to put on thanks to their large neckline and length. Your hands will be well protected from the cold during the whole winter season with these gloves. Here is the link to the Kimpex catalog.
Update on the Mission helmet
I wanted to give you my long term impressions of this helmet. I have had this helmet for over a year and have ridden over six thousand miles in all kinds of conditions. This helmet is light, comfortable, warm and most importantly, it doesn’t fog up. I have the heated visor, but I only plugged it in once to see if it worked. Initially, I adjusted the breath deflector on my face as explained in the booklet and removed the protective film from both the inside and outside of the visor and voila it’s a wonder.
I also tried it with glasses and it works very well too. You have to be more careful though, like making sure that the breath guard fits very well on your face and not closing the visor tightly right away because you have to let the temperature inside the helmet and your glasses acclimate. After a few minutes, it should be fine.
In short, nothing is perfect, but for me it’s the best snowmobile helmet I’ve had and I recommend it. Here is the link to the Kimpex catalog.
