ToggleThis winter, I had the chance to try out the latest technology in heated gloves. Two renowned Quebec companies in the winter sports industry, Auclair and ewool, joined forces to create a glove and mitten specifically designed to withstand the coldest temperatures. In this article, I’ll share my thoughts on this new product designed for winter sports enthusiasts who don’t want to compromise when the mercury drops.
My First Impressions of the ewool x Auclair Heated Gloves
For this test, I had the choice between either the heated gloves or heated mittens. I chose the gloves because I wanted to test their thermal comfort. Generally, gloves are considered less effective than mittens when it comes to heat retention, so I wanted to put that theory to the test.
When I received my new gloves, I noticed the beautiful box containing all the accessories. The packaging certainly reflects the high quality of the product. In addition to the gloves, the box also included two ewool 10 PD 3,000 mAh batteries.
3 Power Levels to Adjust Heating
At the lowest power setting, the heated gloves can run for about seven hours. At medium power, they heat for up to four hours, while at high power, the batteries last for two hours. This gives you plenty of time for a nice hike while keeping your hands warm.
Additionally, the compact charger easily fits into your bag or snowmobile suit. So, if you stop at a rest area, you can easily recharge your batteries. Moreover, the charger allows you to recharge both batteries simultaneously without removing them from the gloves. To recharge the battery, simply use the small SnapConnect connector directly on the gloves.
Premium Design and Practical Features
The gloves are highly aesthetic. Their black colour makes them easy to pair with any snowmobile outfit. They are made from high-quality Grade A goat leather. Goat leather gives the gloves a lightweight and flexible feel, making it easier to handle snowmobile handlebars.
The ewool x Auclair heated gloves also feature touchscreen-compatible thumbs and index fingers. This is a particularly useful feature, allowing you to press the textile screen of a snowmobile without having to remove your gloves.
Each glove comes with a wrist strap, which I find very practical when stopping. Personally, I like to keep my gloves on when I stop to refuel my snowmobile or take a break at a rest area for a coffee. There’s also a carabiner that you can use to attach the gloves to your snowmobile suit if you don’t like wearing them on your wrist.
There’s an adjustable strap at the wrist for a customized fit.
Easy Temperature Control for the ewool x Auclair Heated Gloves
To set the temperature of the gloves, there’s a control button on the top. You simply press it for three seconds to activate the heat. The first setting is the highest, then you just press the button to switch to the second and third heating levels. To turn off the heating, press the same control button for three seconds. In all cases, you’ll feel a vibration each time to indicate the mode change.
The box also included a small storage pouch. Compact and stylish, it’s practical for storing the gloves and charger.
My Experience with the ewool x Auclair Heated Gloves
I chose a medium size (M), which is what I usually take for my mittens and snowmobile gloves. My new ewool x Auclair heated gloves fit me perfectly! The soft inner lining also makes them very comfortable. However, I have small hands, and I found the fingers a bit too long for me.
Ergonomics and Comfort
At first, I was worried about feeling the battery or that it might bother me. But the battery in the ewool x Auclair heated gloves is very small and located under the wrist, so I didn’t notice it at all! This is an advantage that isn’t necessarily found in all heated gloves or mittens. Additionally, I found the process of connecting and inserting the battery to be simple and convenient, with the wire easily accessible.
I also really liked the easy access to the control button. Indeed, I can control the heating intensity and turn it on and off without having to remove my gloves. This is a very interesting feature, in my opinion.
On the other hand, I didn’t like the part of the glove that covers the forearm as much. I found it a bit tight, to be honest. Ultimately, I had trouble fitting it over my snowmobile suit. That said, it may depend on the thickness of your snowmobile suit. Nevertheless, over time, the material may stretch. Indeed, after a few outings, I found it easier to adjust my heated gloves.
Temperature Options for Every Need
Regarding their primary function, I really liked the temperature options offered by the ewool x Auclair heated gloves. The first option, the highest intensity, was mainly useful when my hands were cold. The heating power completely warmed my hands. With the second option, I stayed comfortable while feeling constant warmth. And finally, I really liked the third option, the lowest setting. It provided perfect comfort without making me feel the heat. My hands were simply at a comfortable temperature—not too cold, not too hot.
In practice, the ewool x Auclair heated gloves protected me from the cold on the trails, in the wind, and at higher speeds. I also tried my gloves off the trail, in the woods, and in deeper snow. When I had to exert more effort and my body generated more heat, I simply adjusted the temperature to the lowest setting. Otherwise, I could also turn off the heating function.
Finally, the flexibility of the materials and the gloves’ design allowed me to maintain good control over my handlebars. Not to mention the grippy material on the inside of the palm, which I also found very practical.
To Summarize My Test of the ewool x Auclair Heated Gloves
In summary, I found the new ewool x Auclair heated gloves to be an excellent product. First, they are very comfortable and flexible, fitting well on the hand. They are warm and offer three heating levels to suit a wide range of people, whether you’re sensitive to the cold or not. Finally, you can easily control the heat activation without having to remove a glove. Not to mention their stylish, neutral colour design that pairs well with most snowmobile outfits. In short, the ewool x Auclair heated gloves are tested and approved for Canadian winters!
