The women of the FCMQ rally for a «carbon neutral» snow run

The women of the FCMQ rally for a “carbon neutral” snow run: the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run on February 28, 2009

Several women of the Québec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (FCMQ), more specifically the spouses of the administrators and the permanent employees, will participate in the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run. All the members of the FCMQ’s Board of Directors will be present at the starting line and attend the gala dinner on Saturday evening.

“When I asked Denise Émond, the wife of the President of the FCMQ, if she would pilot the green snowmobile prototype built by the École de technologie supérieure de Montréal (ETS), she said yes, and added: ‘I’m going to call all of the administrators’ spouses so that they can participate in the fundraiser’,” explained Audrey Brossard, Director of Communications of the FCMQ.

The women of the FCMQ collected dollars, to which must be added the profits of the sale of 40 tickets to the gala dinner.

“Mario Côté (President) suggested that the run be made a ‘carbon neutral’ snow run, Denis Levasseur (Vice-President) contacted the ETS, Normand Besner (General Manager) requested that all be present at the gala dinner… Everyone rallied around to produce this result. It’s fantastic,” added Audrey Brossard.

This action follows the commitments made with the launching of the FCMQ’s 5-year environmental action plan. As many as 64 measures are planned in the course of this 5-year period. “We are alternating sensitization and information projects with emission compensation measures, like the snow run on February 28,” explained Mario Côté, President of the FCMQ. “We want our action to have an in-depth and lasting impact.”

The FCMQ invites all its partners and other concerned organizations to join its program “Snowmobiler cares about his environment”.

About FCMQ: The Québec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (FCMQ) strives to further the development and promotion of the practice of snowmobiling, a recreational and family activity that generates $1.3 billion in economic spin-offs every year. Thanks to the support of 4,500 volunteers, the Federation’s affiliated clubs manage the sale of trail permits for Québec’s 33,000-kilometer trail network, and see to its development, planning, maintenance, signposting, and safety.
