Being a mountain rider, and having the privilege of trying out trail sleds, I had a blast on them. I am so used to coming into a corner, slamming on the brakes, and trying not to tip over. Being on a machine where you can come into a corner confidently, carrying momentum, and hammering down as the suspension just hugs and rips around the curve is an awesome feeling. My favourite sled on the trial is the Renegade X-RS turbo.
Being a power junkie, the 180hp turbo motor immediately tickled my fancy. Some reason the 4 stroke power hits differently than a 2 stroke turbo (mega torques) and I loved hearing it spool up as I tapped the apex of the corner and powered through. Turbo lag was very minimal and power was always there whenever I asked for it. With the tuning that Ski-Doo has done, I never felt like it was unexpected or uncontrollable.
Transferring this power and input is efficiently done thanks to the RAS X front suspension and rMotion rear suspension coupled with KYB shocks. It does an excellent job of controlling such a big powerful machine whether it is flat-out drags across the lake, big whoop sections, or seeing how hard and fast you can comfortably fly around the corners. This suspension setup has a lot of user adjustability on the front and rear via easy-to-use clicker knobs. This allows the user to easily and quickly dial in settings based on how your riding.
In the driver’s seat, it is very comfortable to spend all day on no matter what riding style a person has. The adjustable bars definitely helped out in this aspect to set them down low and tight when hugging in a corner or more upwards for leisurely cruising. The seat is also a great balance of firm enough to use as a bracing point but soft enough to happily ride on for hours. Having the options « eco or sport » is another well-thought-out feature on this sled. Eco mode really tones down the aggressive performance of the sled, but flip the switch and it turns into a big angry powerful monster that is an absolute riot on the trail.
