How does a rider fuelled by adrenaline and pure performance end up at the controls of one of the most sought-after models in the Ski-Doo 2026 lineup? This season marks the start of my second year as a contributor with Motoneiges.ca. A season that already felt different—bolder, more exploratory, and above all, full of discovery. Here’s how I came to choose the Ski-Doo Expedition Xtreme 2026, what I expect from it, and why this machine has become one of Ski-Doo’s most coveted models.
An Unexpected Choice Among the Ski-Doo 2026 Lineup
It all began last November. I received a call asking me to submit my top three BRP snowmobiles for 2026 that I’d like to ride this winter. The opportunity to conduct a long-term test in partnership with Groupe Contant was very real.
A fan of raw performance and rough trails, my picks reflected my DNA perfectly:
- Lynx RAVE RE 850
- MXZ X-RS 850 with Competition package
- Lynx Xterrain 900 ACE Turbo R
The last option stood out as particularly interesting, since I had never owned a four-stroke snowmobile.
However, those models were part of spring pre-orders. For this season, I had to choose from available inventory.
On the table were three candidates:
- Renegade Adrenaline
- Expedition LE
- Expedition Xtreme
It took less than two seconds to decide—the Expedition Xtreme was my pick. At last, I would understand the buzz surrounding this increasingly popular machine.
Its 180-horsepower Rotax 900 ACE Turbo R engine, aggressive styling thanks to the new GEN5 platform, and impressive capabilities immediately caught my attention. Having never owned a four-stroke snowmobile, with no off-trail experience—and certainly none on a 20-inch track—I saw a major opportunity. That’s when I thought: if I’m going to step outside my comfort zone, I might as well do it properly. However, I did have one lingering concern: would I still be able to ride groomed trails the way I like, with the same level of enjoyment?
Taking Delivery of My 2026 Expedition Xtreme at Groupe Contant
A few days later, I was invited to visit Groupe Contant in Mirabel to meet director Mr. François Clairoux and take delivery of the sled. I received a warm welcome, and he took the time to walk me through my new machine in their spacious showroom. Knowing my fondness for two-stroke engines, François clearly enjoyed telling me that this choice would push me out of my comfort zone. He also outlined the model’s 2026 updates, including changes to the REV Gen5 chassis and, most notably, the brand-new articulated uMotion rear suspension.
Ski-Doo Expedition Xtreme: Defining a Utility-Sport Snowmobile
Introduced in 2005, the Expedition has evolved significantly. What began as a straightforward utility snowmobile has become an ultra-versatile utility-sport machine.
Picture a sport-utility snowmobile with the following features:
- A 20-inch-wide track with a 154-inch footprint for optimal flotation in deep snow.
- A two-speed transmission (Low and High), finally allowing me to groom my private trails.
- An air radiator to enhance cooling and prevent overheating.
- An adjustable 39-inch ski stance for easy maneuvering in narrower trails.
- A solo seat with a sealed rear storage compartment.
- Handguards for increased protection from the elements.
- An ultra-low windshield for excellent visibility at all times.
Pair all of that with a powerful 180 hp ROTAX engine, and you get a high-performance hybrid snowmobile capable of doing just about anything and going almost anywhere.
What’s New for the 2026 Expedition Xtreme?
For 2026, the Expedition Xtreme adopts the REV Gen5 platform, premium high-performance LED headlights, and an all-new uMotion rear suspension.
Goals and Expectations for the Test Season
As a trail-focused rider, one of my primary objectives will be to see how far I can adapt the Expedition Xtreme for groomed trail riding. I also plan to explore some off-trail areas and even scratch around on the private trails behind my place.
I know I’ll need to reset some of my riding habits to take full advantage of what this machine offers.
I’m looking forward to seeing what this “Swiss Army knife” really has under the hood and explaining why the Expedition Xtreme stands out as one of Ski-Doo’s flagship models for 2026.
Acknowledgements
I would like to sincerely thank the entire Groupe Contant team for their trust and support throughout the season.
