CLARKSBURG, Mass. (Jan. 22, 2016) — Last winter, one of the highlights on the 2015 event schedule was a visit to the bustling eastern Maine city of Bangor. Bass Park has a rich history of horse racing that dates back to the previous century, and snowmobile racing was huge there for decades.
The excitement of that grand debut is about to return, as East Coast Snocross (ECS) gets set for the second annual Paul Bunyan Snocross, presented by Dysarts, on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30-31. Once again this event will serve as a fundraiser for the Eastern Maine Community College Foundation, proudly serving the students of EMCC.
Spectator gates open at 9 a.m. each day. Admission is $15 per day for adults or $20 for a weekend pass. Children age 7 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes valid through the entire weekend will be available for an extra $10.
“We're all pretty excited about getting our series back up to Bangor,” series owner Kurt Gagne said. “We have some new programs in place this season to support our racers. We're going to have some great racing entertainment in all of our classes this winter. I hope folks in the Queen City will join us at Bass Park for what should be an even bigger show than our debut there in 2015.”
Leading the charge into Bangor is five-time Pro champion Danny Poirier, of St. Theodore, Quebec. Poirier (Ingles Performance/Ski-doo) is fresh off three wins in Pro Am Plus 30 competition during the first three AMSOIL Championship Snocross races of the season. Poirier will be joined once again by teammate and fellow Canadian Mathieu Morin, who missed most of last season due to an injury. Morin won the Pro Stock and Pro Open titles in 2011.
The Pro Open field is loaded with talent this season, including veteran racer Chris Coleman, of Albany, New York. Coleman is now part of the Kislowski Racing/Arctic Cat organization and steps up to Pro after a strong 2015 season in Pro Lite. It's a big jump, yet Coleman is ready for the challenge.
In the Pro Lite class, defending champion Cody Paolella (Team Southside/Polaris) is back to defend his crown. Ready to challenge the talented athlete from Wallingford, Connecticut are riders like New York native Joe Bishop (Ingles Performance/Ski-doo) and Wade Acker (daSilva Racing/Ski-doo). The Pro Lite class is full of skilled racers on their way up, looking to make their mark on stock sleds before advancing to the premier Pro Open class.
Another division race fans will want to watch in Bangor is the newly-named Southside Sales/Team Southside Sport class. This is where young athletes with a passion for snocross hone their skills before joining the highly-competitive Pro Lite ranks. The Sport class, along with Women, Juniors and even the 120s will provide some great racing not only in Bangor, but throughout the 2016 season.
East Coast Snocross, presented by AMSOIL, Woody's Traction and FXR, is an ISR-affiliated sanctioning body for snowmobile racing in the northeastern United States. ECS maintains a regional circuit intended to keep grass-roots snocross racing healthy in this part of the country while also cultivating new talent for tomorrow’s factory-backed national Pro teams.
