Rediscovering a lighter 2-stroke snowmobile

During the next season, I will have the chance to test the Arctic Cat XF Limited, a snowmobile of less weight than my previous one.

This nordic cat has an incredible look and is powered by the C-TEC2 engine, a new technology in the 2-stroke world.  Not only does it develop 125 HP, but also Arctic Cat's engineers have been able to reduce its weight by 10 lbs.  The innovation also refers to the new type of lubrication by a 2-step oil injection that improves lubrication by RPM.  This produces less polluting emissions and makes the snowmobile even more eco-friendly.

As many snowmobilers, I really like the reliability and durabililty of the 4-stroke engines and also, during the last years, Arctic Cat has improved a snowmobile in collaboration with Yamaha, a manufacturer who has about 15 years of experience with this type of engine.  However, we are happy to see that new and more efficient 2-stroke engines help to reduce snowmobile weight.  These cleaner and less noisy engines also fulfill many snowmobilers' expectations.

Even if the XF Limited is purpose-built for trails, it is also designed for those who ride everywhere.  Effectively, its Ripsaw II track is 137" long with 1.25" lugs. Its chassis is both lightweight and strong.  Its front suspension is made of 2 angled shocks that should facilitate handling in various fresh and packed hard snow conditions.  The rear suspension shock makes a sliding movement that minimizes weight and provides much comfort.

The total weight of the Arctic Cat XF Limited is around 420 lbs, which I really appreciate.  It proves that Arctic Cat works very hard to produce lightweight, clean, versatile and fuel-efficient snowmobiles that are easy to handle.  Also, it seems that strength and reliability are provided.

I just can't wait to present to you my observations on trails and on logging roads covered with deeper snow.  One thing is sure, its handling and its weight will facilitate our compulsive and sometimes reckless moves in powder snow and abrupt hills.

This hybrid cat could hide nice surprises and show us unexpected qualities.  This winter, my blood is green !
