ToggleFor many years, dirt bike enthusiasts have been able to practice their activity regardless of the season. However, they have to adapt their bikes to the time of year and the surface they plan to ride on.
In winter, snowy areas require the replacement of motorcycle wheels by additions that will allow to literally float on the surfaces we have to face in winter time. The term “Snowbike” is most often used to designate a dirt bike with a ski on the front and a track on the back to project these machines onto surfaces that are otherwise almost inaccessible.
TimberSled has a reputation that no longer needs to be presented in this category. This name is frequently used in the popular jargon to designate this type of motorcycle adapted for winter, just as the name ” Fridge ” or ” Kleenex ” are used to name everyday items.
The conversion is relatively easy and accessible to all. Most of the parts are universal except for the specific fasteners for each model and brand of motorcycle.
A bit of TimberSled history
The TimberSled brand became famous because it was a precursor. It was in 2008 that an American, Allen Mangum, created the concept. The first prototype was tested the following year with great success. This ingenious designer was looking for a way to reach places and environments that are difficult to reach even by snowmobile. That’s when he started to work on the design of the ideal adapted motorcycle that could float on the snow.
2010 was the year the first models went into production and were sold to the general public. 2015 was a landmark year, as Polaris Industries acquired the brand. Since then, the progression has never stopped and several versions are available for all types of riders.
What’s new for 2022
For the 2022 edition, TimberSled has added a new model to its RIOT 3 line. This will allow a motorcycle, combined with this package, to attack even more abundant and imposing snow surfaces than ever.
In addition, TimberSled has designed 3 new finish packages that will allow riders to add to their options and preferences beyond what was previously possible.
2022 TimberSled RIOT 3
With the popularity of the RIOT version introduced in 2020, TimberSled wanted to take the deep snow driving experience to another level. It should be remembered that the initial version was designed to achieve better handling. This one was designed to allow the rider the opportunity to raise the front end when the situation requires a more technical approach. Maneuverability has always been its distinguishing feature compared to other existing traction-oriented TimberSled chassis.
Two years later, we now have the TimberSled RIOT 3 for MY2022, which will take the RIOT’s capability to deeper places. The RIOT 3 uses TimberSled’s 129-inch mid-length track with the industry’s only 3-inch spike. RIOT 3 combines the capabilities of the ARO 3 with the playfulness of the RIOT ski frame, for what many call the perfect combination.
3 New Finish Sets
Designers made the decision for 2022 to create distinct variations to help consumers navigate the available packages. These are designated as SPORT, PREMIUM and PRO.
SPORT.
To practice the activity of snowbike without breaking the bank, the SPORT package is the one to choose. It is also the set that is likely to interest new enthusiasts who are new to this activity.
The TimberSled SPORT trim level is the basic package that will allow riders to have fun at a great price, using rebuildable Timberself IFP shocks. It will be available on select ARO and RIOT models.
PREMIUM.
The mid-range PREMIUM trim level will be available this season and is featured on ARO and RIOT models. It will use FOX QS3 adjustable quick-click shocks for quick and easy compression adjustment. These popular shocks allow for quick adjustment by selecting a 3-position switch: soft, medium and firm. This set is probably the most popular, as it provides a happy balance between performance and handling.
PRO.
The highest level of performance offered by TimberSled is without a doubt the PRO level which is only available during the spring Snowcheck period. This is the most expensive package, but it offers everything a seasoned rider could want.
What you get with the PRO version is a high-performance FOX IBP QS3 shock with internal bypass and lightweight springs. As a result, Walker Evans Velocity shocks have consequently given way for 2022. The PRO trim includes lightweight components that reduce transmission weight by 2 pounds. In total, the PRO trim level reduces the substantial 5-pound weight of the PREMIUM trim package.
The PRO trim level is only available on the RIOT 3 and ARO 3 and is available in a variety of color options.
A lower TimberSled that provides confidence
Introduced last year, TimberSled has offered us “S” versions for 2021 to its ARO and RIOT models. While not new, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you about these lower, less intimidating versions.
They feature a 3-inch lower seat height, revised ski frame geometry and a lower angle of attack. These versions are designed to improve handling and cornering ease for smaller, less aggressive, novice riders.
Youth are not forgotten!
TimberSled Ripper kits are once again available for use with 110cc youth dirt bikes. Their size and height are adapted for small motorcycles in order to educate the future generation.
The Ripper set uses a 93″ x 6.5″ wide track, with 1.25″ legs to aggressively grip the snow.
One of the best features of the Timbersled Ripper is that it does not use slides. The track rolls on bogey wheels, which means you don’t have to worry about the flotation surface when your youngster is having fun with his TimberSled Ripper even if there isn’t much snow in the yard, or it is hard.
In conclusion, this is a brief overview of what TimberSled has to offer. Snowbike riding is booming. You only have to look at the new discipline categories in the “X Games” series to see the craze for this bike adapted to our winters. It only remains for you to visit your authorized Polaris dealer to discover these packages designed to meet our expectations.
