To find the best accommodation corresponding to our expectations of services and comfort, we must give special attention to its classification before booking.
The classification of an establishment is determined in accordance with a system of score that refers to the different aspects of lodging establishments (building outdoors, sanitary equipment, amenities, services, etc… all while considering closely the particularities of each class (inn, outfitter, bed and breakfast, etc…). The classification always includes different levels that show the rating of comfort and service of the establishment.
Why a classification program?
The program has two objectives:
- to protect travellers;
- to help enhance the quality of accommodation offered.
The program has many benefits such as:
- travellers can count on a complete and reliable description of accommodation offered in the Province of Québec;
- establishment operators have a detailed reference to help them develop products adapted to their target markets, while ensuring healthy competition.
Every owner of an establishment that offers tourist accommodation, including outfitters, must indicate on his flyers, on his publicity and on a sign displayed at the main entrance, the class and level of classification with stars (from 1 to 5) or suns (also from 1 to 5) for bed and breakfasts only.
The classification considers the following points:
- the quality of the premises (rooms, bathrooms, common areas, outdoors, etc…);
- the maintenance conditions;
- the cleanliness.
The classifier also considers:
- the services offered;
- the various safety measures.
