Not only have volunteers been busy working on trails, we hosted the annual general meeting and convention for the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs in September in Ottawa. This was a three-day event with 500 people attending from across the province.
SNOWMOBILE DRIVER TRAINING COURSES
In November, 16 children took the Snowmobile Driver Training course. Another course is being offered to children 12 years old and up. To register, please call Ann at 613-768-5147 or [email protected]. The course is being offered over two nights, Tuesday, Jan. 19 and Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. You must attend both nights. Also in November, we held our annual Landowner’s Appreciation Dinner with more than 100 in attendance. Thank you to all landowners for the use of your land.
Family Fun Day Jan. 2
We proudly entered a float in the Kemptville Santa Claus Parade this year, we catered to the Oxford-on-Rideau Bird Club Christmas Dinner, and held an open house at the clubhouse. For the past two weekends some of our volunteers have been selling district sled tickets at Canadian Tire as well.
Our annual Christmas potluck dinner was held on Dec. 13 with 48 in attendance and even Santa Claus made a short appearance. Plans are now being made for our Family Fun Day on Saturday, Jan. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. at the clubhouse. This is open to all in the community. We are planning to have hot dogs and a marshmallow feast, a chance to ride District 1 Yamaha sleds, games and lots of fun.
SNOWARAMA SET FOR FIRST SUNDAY IN FEBRUARY
Mark your calendars now for the annual Snowarama Day, which takes place the first Sunday in February. The Kemptville Snowmobile Klub is excited about this year’s Snowarama as we mark the 35th anniversary of participating in the Easter Seals snowmobile ride and day.
This year, we plan to kick-off the breakfast at the Kemptville Legion, go for a snowmobile ride and then return to the legion. We are offering euchre games and live entertainment, followed by a dinner and live and silent auction at the legion as well. Many of the local businesses donate to the auction, which helps raise money for the children of Easter Seals. If you are interested in dinner tickets, please contact Marty at 613-258-4347 or Liz at 613-258-3648. Advance tickets are preferred.
CLASSIC PERMITS AVAILABLE
New this year, the OFSC is offering a "classic permit" for $125. This permit must be purchased through District 1 Snowmobile Association, John Boals, 613-543-0374 in Morrisburg. This is for snowmobilers 15 years old or older (1995).
As you can see, no dust settles on the volunteers in the Kemptville Snowmobile Klub. If you want to get in on some of this fun come out to our bi-weekly meetings at the clubhouse, make a pledge to Snowarama, and participate in the activities. Be sure to check our website: www.familysnowmobiling.ca/ksk for more information on our activities and events.
For additional information, please call president Dale Walt at 613-258-3947, or to volunteer, call volunteer coordinator Ann Robinson at 613-768-5147.
