Destination Revelstoke: Early Season Snowmobiling Adventures and Mountain Magic

Revelstoke, BC—a snowmobiler’s paradise and the ultimate winter playground. With its jaw-dropping landscapes, deep snow, and an incredible community, it’s no wonder snowmobilers flock here from around the globe. In December, I had the honour of attending two iconic events led by my idol, Nadine Overwater. First, I attended the Full Speed Rentals Ladies Ride. Then, I went to La Nina’s Sled Camps. That made for two awesome weekends of adrenaline, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

Weekend 1: Full Speed Rentals Ladies Ride

Thursday: The Drive to Dreamland

After clocking out in Pemberton, I hit the road for Revelstoke with a thermos of coffee and a playlist of pump-up tunes. Five hours later, I arrived at the cozy Beaver Creek Lodge, where Amber Giroux and the host welcomed me to a mountain cabin straight out of a Hallmark movie.

Friday: Foggy Adventures on Frisbee Ridge

The day began with meeting Amber G., Christa, Wayne, and Jamie as my crew. Despite heavy fog on Frisbee Ridge, we carved through the trees, dodged buried obstacles, and even lent a hand to a crew trying to get a trail Groomer out of the lake. The boys had it all figured out by the time we arrived, but it was nice to watch them at work on that rescue mission that spread over two days.

The way back was bumpy and muddy, and I couldn’t help but race it all the way to the truck. Pro tip: always check your carbides after a long and rocky/dirty road. One of mine was damaged, and I barely escaped an encounter between my helmet and my sled deck ramp. Luckily, it was locked in, and the ramp ended up retracting instead of popping out and back. Phew, saved it! It also made for a good show for anyone witnessing… haha!

The evening was spent at a meet-and-greet hosted by Full Speed Rentals and Nadine, complete with drinks, snacks and Shena Thomas’s avalanche education games. It was a wake-up call to brush up on my avalanche safety skills. Because knowing your equipment is safe and ready to operate is the difference between saving your buddies or not. I will make sure to take an online refresher with soulrides.ca.

Saturday: Ladies Ride Highlights

Saturday kicked off with a rowdy detour leading to the wrong parking lot for Amber Heberling and I. Skidding our way through a freshly covered FSR was awesome! We finally met with the rest of the group and headed up. At the top, I quickly gathered a smaller group of women, and Nadine led us to a powdery wonderland where muffled screams of joy echoed through helmets. A memorable moment was helping Savanna Rennie and Sam Stutzke out of a snow trap, right by the Cabin area, for all to watch! Snowmobiling may be an individual sport, but teamwork (and laughter) always saves the day.

We wrapped up the ride with dinner at Big Eddy’s, where the camaraderie and stories flowed as easily as the drinks. No need to mention the hot tub at Beaver Creek Lodge was amazing to unwind and relax after a good day of snowmobiling. Shout-out to our host Mike, who went above and beyond to accommodate us ladies for the weekend!

Weekend 2: La Nina’s Sled Camps Charity Ride

Friday: Round Two Begins

After a workweek filled with anticipation, I returned to Revelstoke, this time staying at Boulder Mountain Resort’s Revy Dome. Love me some glamping. This cozy dome was the perfect prelude to an action-packed weekend.

Saturday: Riding With the Pros

Excited for the day, I left my phone and GoPros at the Dome when I left. That meant I couldn’t capture the epic day I had. But let me tell you how it went. Grouped with industry legends such as the Thomas Brothers, Jay Mentaberry, and rookie of the year Chase Masson, I knew the day was going to be filled with gnarly moves and technical terrain. We were lucky to be guided by Steeve Scott, from Great Canadian Tours, who led us through a beautiful tour of Boulder Mountain. We made sure to track out every “stop” we made. I spent the day keeping up, leading and chasing with minimal mishaps. I was proud of myself. Riding alongside these amazing men reminded me of the power of positive vibes. Compliments from the boys on how I can “manhandle” that Shredder Turbo with finesse and precision definitely left my helmet too small to put back on at the end of the day, haha! Not that I am seeking anyone’s approval about my riding, but it was nice to get acknowledgement and empowerment from these badass riders.

To close up the day, Nadine hosted a lively evening at the Regent Hotel, where La Nina’s Charity Ride raised an astounding $20,000. How amazing is that? I was looking forward to some dancing, but the venue was not set up for it. Instead, I headed to the dome fairly early to enjoy a good night’s sleep.

Sunday: Picture-Perfect Finale

Sunday was all about capturing the magic. Eliisa from SledRevelstoke joined me, Savanna Rennie, Caroline Duchesne, and her partner Brandon for a photo session on Frisbee Ridge. Powder turns, stuck sleds, and contagious laughter filled the day. We even cried in gratefulness for women supporting each other in our sport! We, again, closed up the weekend with a warm meal at Big Eddy’s before I took the road back home. I can’t wait to be back and visit my new friends for life!
