A Refreshing Start to the Snowmobiling Season!

Un début de saison de motoneige qui fait du bien a refreshing start to the snowmobiling season

Over the weekend, I finally got to embark on my first snowmobiling trail ride of the season. Although it was only a 205 km journey, it was a season kickoff that did wonders for me. Indeed, after weeks of anticipation, snow accumulations allowed numerous clubs to open their trails. We went from 14 clubs open or partially open last week to over 140 this weekend. It’s as impressive as it is unexpected. Naturally, many snowmobilers took advantage of the weekend to experience the beginning of the 2024 season. My friend Dominic and I did just that!

Open, But…

As is the case every year, the conditions during the first days of the season are not optimal. We must always remain cautious as the trail base is generally softer. Moreover, obstacles such as rocks or pieces of wood may be present on the trail. In fact, we had to move a large rock to the side of the trail that the groomer had dislodged.

Depending on the snowfall, the conditions we encountered were generally good. Some areas were more challenging, while in others the trail was perfect.

Additionally, at some spots the signage was not yet complete, so it is necessary to stay alert and ride with moderation.

I was also able to log my first kilometres on the Polaris Patriot Boost Indy VR1 137. On his end, Dominic rode the Ski-Doo MX Z X-RS 850. What a fantastic way to mark the start of our snowmobiling season!

It Feels Good!

As the title of my article suggests, the start of this snowmobiling season has done wonders for me. For a few hours, I set aside the worries of daily life to allow myself to enjoy the moment. Snowmobiling is a fantastic way to escape the routine and embrace the beauties of winter.

I also took advantage of this beautiful snowmobiling day to start testing my Klim Keweenaw gear and my BRP Advex helmet. My initial impressions are positive. However, I’ll need a few more rides to share with you my trial assessments.

The Best Is Yet to Come

From experience, I am certain that conditions will improve in the coming days. Indeed, the more grooming a trail receives, the firmer its base becomes. Additionally, an extra ten centimetres of snow is expected this week. This will make life much easier for many clubs.

Wishing everyone a great start to the snowmobiling season!
