ToggleI recently got to test the 509 Altitude 2.0 Helmet, the Stoke Mono Suit, the Velo Raid Boots, the Aviator 2.0 Fuzion Flow Goggles and the 509 Backcountry gloves. Admittedly I was a bit nervous to try this as I have been a Klim loyalist for quite some time. During our four days of testing we got to test this gear in frigid sub zero temps to sunshine to deep snow to wet conditions. Overall, 509 was a pleasant surprise.
Altitude 2.0 Helmet
The helmet is definitely a highlight, it was light weight, comfortable and had a feature I believe every backcountry helmet should have: the magnetic strap buckle. This may sound insignificant but quickly became one of my favorite features. No more having to take your gloves off and freeze your fingers to buckle your helmet.
Aviators 2.0 Fuzion Flow Googles
I have always been a fan of 509 goggles and have purchased numerous pairs over the years. The Aviators were no exception; they were comfortable they fit the helmet perfectly and provided a great field of view.
Stoke mono suit
The Stoke mono suit also proved to be very versatile. It was able to keep me dry while playing in the steep and deep and with proper layering was great protection against the cold (our last morning was -25 leaving the trailer). The fit and finish were good and I appreciated the pockets and suspenders that were standard. The gators and snaps worked as expected and again I was pleasantly surprised.
Velo Raid boots
The Velo Raid Boots had really peaked my interest as I am a dirt biker when the snow melts. These boots were really comfortable right out of the box and provided fantastic support. I could see the snow bike crowd and cliff droppers loving these boots. Our only issue was not enough insulation. On really cold days most of our group needed additional toe warmers to make it through the day.
Backcountry gloves
The 509 backcountry gloves were another highlight, they found a perfect balance between being light enough to grip the handlebars and yet warm enough to keep your hands nice and toasty.
Overall, I was really happy with all of the 509 gear; it was really well made, comfortable and functioned as advertised in varying conditions.
