For 2026, Ski-Doo has taken the high-performing Summit X and put it on a serious diet. Shedding an impressive 14 lb from the 2025 model. By trimming 12 lb in dry weight and 2 lb in wet weight, Ski-Doo continues its mission to have the lightest sled on the market, without compromising strength or performance.
So, how did they do it? Let’s dive into the cutting-edge innovations that make the 2026 Summit X a true backcountry beast.
New T-Motion X with Coil-Over Rear Suspension
Ski-Doo has revamped the rear suspension with a coil-over spring design instead of the previous torsion spring setup. This change alone cuts 2 lb from the sled, making it the lightest rear suspension on the market, while still offering maximum travel.
At just 39.3 lb, the new rear suspension skid maintains Ski-Doo’s signature handling and feel. After putting the Summit X to the test, I can confidently say it rides, feels, and handles just like its predecessor, but in a lighter, more responsive package.
This updated coil-over rear suspension is exclusive to the T-Motion X on the Summit X models. It won’t be available on the Summit X with the Expert package.
The All-New PowderMax Ultra-Light Track
The 2026 Summit X 154 3″ now comes with the new Powder Max Ultra-Light track, which is 2 lb lighter than previous models. Why does that matter? A lighter track means less rotating mass, which translates to quicker acceleration, more responsiveness, and an even more agile ride.
At 42.9 lb, this track achieves its weight savings through a thinner belt (reduced by 0.020 in.) and a redesigned staggered side lug pattern. The result? Better performance without sacrificing durability.
Revolutionized Cooling System: Lighter & More Efficient
For 2026, Ski-Doo has redesigned the heat exchanger system to be shorter, with a more efficient cooling layout.
- The coolant system now carries 2 lb less fluid
- Less heat buildup means less ice and snow accumulation, further improving weight savings and performance
Despite the reduction in size, the cooling system is still more efficient than previous models. After a week of riding and testing, the sled stayed cool and performed flawlessly on and off the trail.
Forged Aluminum A-Arms: Lighter, Yet Just as Strong
Ski-Doo engineers have shaved 1.5 lb off the sled by redesigning the upper A-arms with lightweight, forged aluminum. The strategic design maintains strength exactly where it’s needed, ensuring the same level of durability while dropping weight.
New Lightweight Tunnel: Shorter & Stronger
Ski-Doo has pushed the Summit X into super-short tunnel territory.
- The 154-inch model’s tunnel is now 2 in. shorter
- The 165-inch model is 3 in. shorter
On top of that, Ski-Doo thinned the aluminum from the tunnel structure design from 1.8 mm to 1.6 mm, trimming 5 lb while maintaining strength.
Additional Weight Saving Tweaks
Ski-Doo didn’t stop there; they went all-in on the weight reduction mission:
-
- Smaller snow flap and taillight save additional weight
- New, lighter airbox material shaves 1 lb more (available on naturally aspirated models, not turbo versions)
- Redesigned bulkhead with a thinner yet strategically reinforced design trims 1.5 lb.
Summit X: Lighter, Stronger, and More Capable Than Ever
The 2026 Summit X isn’t just lighter, it’s stronger, more refined, and more responsive than ever before. Ski-Doo’s engineers have pulled off an impressive feat: shaving 14 lb while maintaining the durability, handling, and performance that riders love.
In the world of mountain sleds, every pound matters. And with these weight reductions, the Summit X is set to challenge the competition and the backcountry like never before. Ski-Doo continues to push the limits, proving that lighter really is better.
Act now! The 2026 Summit X models are exclusively available during the SnowCheck period, ending April 2, 2025. Visit Ski-Doo.brp.com for more details and to locate your nearest dealer.
