2013 Yamaha Nytro R-TX Turbo A snowmobile designed for expert pilots only !

We went with pleasure to RPM Rive-Sud, a Yamaha dealership where we received a warm welcome from Mr André Lessard and Jean-François Ferland.  They described to us the features of the Yamaha snowmobiles we were going to test. Here are the comments gathered by the test pilots who rode over a hundred kilometers on groomed trails, in respect of the snowmobiling regulations such as speed limits.

The following elements have been evaluated :
  • riding, ergonomics
  • aesthetics, finish quality
  • engine, noise, fume
  • track
Modifications

This 2013 Nytro R-TX belongs to Mr Lessard, one of RPM Rive-Sud’ owners.  A turbocharger has been added to the 4-stroke, 3-cylinder Genesis engine, delivering 185 HP.  Wow !  A medium windshield had been installed to offer some protection against wind.

Riding

We all liked the riding position that allows the pilot to be at ease on a touring ride as well as on a sport riding. We appreciated the good protection against wind on the lower body thanks to the cabin configuration, while the addition of the medium windshield offered a good protection to the head.

We rode at -25 °C and it is absolutely necessary to put muffs on the handles when riding under such cold weather.  We believe that the Yamaha controls on the handles are the benchmark in the industry.

The location and size of the buttons are just perfect.  We liked the warmers controls with gradation that are so easy to use. However, the odometer digital indicator seemed a little too small even if it was easy to read at a glance.  The hooked handles designed for sport riding are of a good size, which allows us to get used to it in a short time.

To really enjoy the sport riding, this 2013 Yamaha Nytro R-TX Turbo requires quite a strength from the pilot.  The FX frame of the Nytro is rigid and we did not feel any bend of the frame when riding out of a curve, despite the power of the engine.  The ski traction is excellent in curves, the suspension does a good job in bumps and the seat is very comfortable, no matter your type of riding.

Aesthetics

Other snowmobilers look at this snowmobile with respect.  The finish of this Japanese manufacturer is impeccable.  Yamaha dealers offer graphic kits if you wish to customize your sled.  There are some surfaces available on the hood of the Nytro R-TX where you can apply your favorite decals.

Engine

This turbocharged 4-stroke, 3-cylinder Genesis engine delivers 185 HP.  The raspy muffled sound produced in acceleration makes you feel like the snowmobile is about to take off when you push the accelerator with your thumb.  The track was a little noisy at any speed on a trail covered with snow hardened by wind and extreme cold, but it was still enjoyable.

Conclusion

This 2013 Yamaha Nytro R-TX Turbo is a snowmobile designed for experienced pilots who like to work out when they are snowmobiling.  «Made for expert pilots only».  We must add that due to the power of its engine, this snowmobile is not appropriate for beginners.
