The Safety Caravan take place February 3 to 6, 2009

The Safety Caravan, to take place February 3 to 6, 2009, will be an opportunity for the Québec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (FCMQ) to remind snowmobilers of the rules of safety

The President of the Québec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (FCMQ), as well as members of the Executive Committee and several guests, will cross the regions of Chaudière-Appalaches, Centre-du-Québec and Estrie in order to promote snowmobile safety. Several press briefings will be organized during the event.

Trail safety is one of the FCMQ’s greatest priorities. The annual Safety Caravan allows to meet with the snowmobilers on the trails and in the rest stops to remind them of the rules of safety and of the efforts deployed by the FCMQ to ensure their safety on the trails:

  • The clubs’ 1,400 supervisory officers ride the 33,000 kilometres of trails throughout the whole of the season.
  • A provincial team of 50 or so officers patrol the trails at all times and ensure the training of the clubs’ supervisory officers. These provincial officers report directly to the FCMQ. All the supervisory officers receive training.
  • The clubs and the FCMQ work closely with the Sûreté du Québec and the municipal police forces to patrol the trails on all of the Québec territory.
  • As many as 4,500 volunteers work to keep the trails safe thanks to signage that meets the standards of Transports Québec.
  • The use of snowmobiles equipped with the best available technology is recommended in order to reduce noise and emission pollution.
  • Sledders are encouraged to show respect and courtesy toward landowners and outdoor recreationists who are not snowmobilers.

The FCMQ wishes to thank the following partners for their collaboration in the organization of the Safety Caravan: Ministère des Transports, Educ’Alcool, ISMA, Arctic Cat, BRP (Ski-Doo), Polaris, Yamaha, and MaxNeige Programme d’assurances.
