For the second season in 2012-2013, I tested the Wheeltracker hydraulic wheels system. It was a great experience, even at -35 °C. If you had any doubt about using it under extreme cold weather, do not worry anymore. Even if it takes more time to activate the wheels, it gets into work without any problem.
The maintenance for that second season is very simple : you have to lubricate the wheel pivots with a waterproof grease that resists to calcium and sand. It greatly improves the articulation of mobile parts mostly under extreme cold weather.
This season, the manufacturer added small wings to the wheels to protect your sled from splashes and mud thrown when wheels are put down. We really liked these hydraulic wheels; it works very smoothly and helps moving on hard surfaces.
What are the advantages of such hydraulic wheels system on your snowmobile ? Just think about taking your machine on and off your trailer, about stopping for gas or food, or else, when you are at a stop sign and both your runners are on the pavement while the track is on an icy surface. A simple wheel activation without even getting off your machine and that’s it. You must remember that your snowmobile weight is important and the Wheeltracker may prevent backache if you have to move it on concrete or pavement.
The Wheeltracker is expensive, but do not forget that the cost may be paid off on more than one snowmobile : you may switch this equipment from one machine to another even if not from de same manufacturer.
