Testing SENA SMH10 DUAL Communication System

It has been a great pleasure for me to try out the SENA SMH10 Dual communication system (Bluetooth stereo headset and intercom) designed for snowmobile, motorcycle, side-by-side and ATV.  This wireless system is integrated in a small box mounted on the side of your helmet, no matter its type.

The package includes :

  • 2 firmware ports
  • speaker-microphone clamp unit for boom microphone or wired microphone
  • headset
  • USB power and data cables
  • charger for 12V outlet
  • audio cable and other small accessories to conclude the installation

Installation
Read carefully the instructions and you will not have any unpleasant surprise when using the system.  It is recommended to install the device on the left side of the helmet where it will be easier to use.  Inside your helmet, the speakers must be located directly opposite to your ears for a better sound and comfort.  If they are installed correctly, you will not feel them.

Utilization
It is very easy to recharge the Sena device.  Just plug the USB cable into the device and the other end of the adapter into a wall sucket.  Or else, it can be recharged in a 12V outlet.  To turn it on, press the phone button and the Jug Dial at the same time during a few seconds.  SENA voice prompt will let you know the device status.  It is the same operation when you want to turn it off.

Coupling
Coupling is made with another SENA device, a mobile phone (Bluetooth), a Bluetooth stereo  player and a GPS.  Handsfree functionalities can be activated / inactivated by voice, as other features.  The device can be coupled with a maximum of three other SENA units.

Conversation
Conversation can be started or ended by voice or by pressing the Jog Dial.  If your mobile phone is coupled, it comes first on the list of applications available in the SENA.

Testing
We tested the SENA SMH10 Dual communication system for the first time in December, on a daily basis, under -15 °C to -20 °C temperatures.  Then, during a tour in the Monts Valin, it was tested under -27 °C to -37 °C temperatures.  We rode during wonderful sunshiny and windy days on outstanding, large and perfectly groomed trails.

The SENA SMH10 Dual was very efficient; we could talk all day long, riding about 8 to 10 hours a day.  I had doubt about the battery capacity under extreme cold weather during so many hours.  But we did not have any problem with it.  The battery charge did not go below half of its capacity while the SENA was used non stop all day long.  We recharged it every night.

In conclusion, the tests have been very positive and I just adored using the SENA SMH10 Dual communication system.  You are not alone with a SENA in your helmet and rides are more enjoyable.  So, if you need a communication system designed for snowmobile, motorcycle, side-by-side or  ATV, I recommend the SENA SMH10 Dual communication system.

Special thanks to Mrs Karine Robichaud, from Motovan Corporation, who gave us the opportunity to try out the SENA SMH10 Dual.
