Spotlight Polaris 2013: Polaris is clearly on a mission

In 2013 Polaris embarks on a mission of refinement and component redesign on many of its proven models. With phrases like “Purpose Built”, Terrian Domination” and “Flickability” these targeted efforts (some slight, some significant) are aimed at complimenting and expanding Polaris’ strengths as well as increasing function and comfort.  These efforts are joined by a significant new model introduction or (depending on your age group) reintroduction.

A significant shift in technology and component redesign can be found in Polaris’ industry leading belt drive chaincase called the Quickdrive low inertia drive system. Found only in the Pro RMK models for MY2013 the Quickdrive system functions like the timing belt in the modern automobile. Quickdrivereduces rotating mass, allows the use of lighter drive shaft and brake components and requires no oil or tension adjustment.

Other items of refinement which can be found on all 2013 RMK models are the light, high strength, 50% open, extruded aluminum, PowderTrac running boards, Pro-Lite seats for increased rider maneuverability, bonded lower A-arms and the introduction of Carbon fiber to the Pro RMK chassis pyramid overstructure.

For 2013 the responsive 600 Cleanfire® Injection engine becomes cleaner and more efficient with new fuel rails, new injectors, new fuel management system and new exhaust system.

In the Rush and Switchback trail models, refinements include a new Pro-Steer, shorter keel ski design which reduces steering effort and keeps the already flat handling Pro-Ride chassis even flatter. These models also receive the Pro-Ride Adventure seat for increased long ride comfort.

For 2013 Polaris returns the iconic “Indy” name to their lineup. The new “Indy” is a well thought out, full featured snowmobile that could easily lead the way for many more winter enthusiast to fall in love with the sport of snowmobiling. The new Indy and Indy SP have the potential for a very wide market.

The refinements for 2013 were very positive in making some very formidable snowmobiles even better.  I personally found the calibration of the 2013 trail models to be some of the flattest handling sleds ever offered.
