Snowmobilers Locate Missing Father & Son In Hills Above Bountiful

A father and his son — who became stranded on the snowy mountainside above Bountiful overnight when their snowmobiles wouldn’t start — were found unharmed on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Robert Sutton, 41, and his son Cole, 15, left their home Wednesday afternoon to go snowmobiling and planned to return later in the evening. As the night wore on, the pair found themselves with no way home when their snow machines wouldn’t start — and a snowstorm passing through. Although they were stranded, the two did have proper clothing to keep them warm enough until rescuers arrived.

Family members said they were able to stay in contact with the missing snowmobilers via text messages. By noon Thursday, Davis County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue teams had begun looking for the two near the block letter ‘B’ east of Bountiful.

A medical helicopter was brought in to help with the search, officials said. However, neither the man or his son were injured.

The missing riders were found at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday by another group of snowmobilers in the Tuttle Mine Loop area. The group that found the Suttons went looking for them after speaking to authorities at the staging area near the block ‘B.’
