Snowmobile trail conditions gradually improving in Ontario

"There is snow in the forecast for the next couple of days this week, so that’s going to make a big difference," Craig Nicholson, spokesperson for the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC), said Monday.

"A little bit of snow on top of what we’ve got will be good. The ground is frozen now and the lakes are looking good. Much of the snow was removed from the ice surface, so the ice is forming the way it should," he said.

"Some swamps and bogs are still a little uncertain," Nicholson added.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, snowmobiles require at least 20 centimetres of clear blue ice and most light vehicles require 30 centimetres or more. Double these amounts if the ice is white or opaque.
