Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro 900 ACE Turbo 2019 – Pre-Ride Analysis

Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro 900 ACE Turbo 2019 – Pre-Ride Analysis

For a 4th year, I have the great privilege to be one of the pilots who will test a new snowmobile for a long term test. It is with great pleasure that I begin the long-term test of the Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro 900 ACE Turbo 2019, made in partnership with Les Motoneiges Géro inc, BRP dealer in Saint-Jean-de-Matha in the magnificent Lanaudière region. This model is different from the last two tests I did, as they were equipped with the powerful second generation Rotax 850 E-TEC engine. It’s a big comeback to the 4-stroke engine for me this season!

900 ACE Turbo Engine

The 900 ACE Turbo engine makes a notable entry in the Ski-Doo lineup this year. Much awaited by enthusiasts of the brand, this engine offers an estimated power of 150 HP, about 20 more than its predecessor the 1200 4-TEC. Equipped with the intelligent iTC accelerator and pDrive clutch, the 900 ACE Turbo engine offers much higher power and torque that will satisfy most performance lovers. Given what has been done with Can-Am, we believe that this engine has a lot of development potential in the future. It is important to note in this test the 900 ACE engine version is not an ordinary 900 ACE. This one has been specially designed to manage all the power produced by the Turbo. The mechanical components are therefore much more robust to ensure performance, reliability, and durability.

REV GEN 4 chassis with an extended design

To accommodate the new 900 ACE Turbo engine in the GEN 4 chassis, Ski-Doo engineers and designers have designed a new version with an expanded design. Much like they did in 2016 to install the 1200 4-TEC in the XS chassis, the GEN 4 panels have been widened versus the version with E-TEC engine. The new look is impressive. We still have the same ergonomics with the Ergo-Step panels that allow us to move quickly on the snowmobile. The chassis is wider; we are more protected from the wind, which is an advantage in cold weather.

Suspension

Our test snowmobile has a RAS 3 suspension with HPG PLUS shock absorbers at the front. At the rear, we have a 137-inch rMotion suspension coupled with an HPG PLUS shock absorber at the front and an air shock absorber at the rear. It can be electronically adjusted in 5 positions while driving with the snowmobile. It makes the Renegade Enduro extremely comfortable to drive. This type of suspension has been used for more than 20 years on several models in the Touring and Touring-Solo category.

Luxury Features

The Renegade Enduro is one of the Ski-Doo snowmobiles that is the most equipped standard. At the front, we find the revolutionary TS Pilots skis that are adjustable according to your driving preferences. At the rear, we have a 137-inch ICE Ripper XT track with studs that are pre-molded into the track. This significantly improves trail safety, especially when cornering and braking on ice. This model also has a luxury heated seat and a multifunctional gauge. The Renegade Enduro, regardless of the engine, is designed for snowmobilers who go on long rides or occasionally go off the trail. It is for this last element that the model is equipped with a “heavy duty” bumper at the front.
