I rode over 1 800 kilometers on trails in very different conditions and time has come to present my impression on this snowmobile; many riders have doubt about it because of its 4-stroke engine of 90 HP. To them, I can say that I am very surprised by its performance. I invite you to read my comments and then, to make your own opinion.
In this article, I am going to talk about six elements : handling, power, noise, comfort, access to controls, riding position. My analysis is a quick summary of these six points. However, in my last and overall report to come after 5 000 kilometers, I will be able to present my final appreciation.
Noise
The first time I started my machine, I could not hear if the engine was running. I had to press down gently the accelerator and then, I knew it was really turned on. When we ride on trail, at a regular speed or in acceleration, the noise is not annoying. On the contrary, it is almost silent and those who fight against noise pollution would be happy.
Handling
This snowmobile is very easy to handle since all components are located on the REV-XS chassis, such as the HPG shocks, the rMotion rear suspension and the motion control center shock. These features and its mass of 501 lbs provide to the pilot, on trails in good or in bad conditions, a supple handling that is surprising in straight lines as well as in curves. When I was negotiating a turn, I had almost no maneuver or very few maneuvers to make due to the great handling of this snowmobile.
Comfort
I adjusted the HPG front shocks at the lowest setting and I left the rMotion suspension at the lowest for a solo ride. In bumpy trails, the front shocks and the rear suspension along with the center shock were effective. I had the feeling that the snowmobile stuck to bumps; this provided easier riding and the same comfort than the GSX Touring offers.
Power
It is sure that this snowmobile does not have the « zip » of a 2-stroke engine like the 600 E-TEC does. It offers a power that is slightly lower, but I assure you that it provides a nice feeling during acceleration. The snowmobile offers three modes of power, which lets the pilot choose according to the trail conditions. I can say without any hesitation that this snowmobile will surely please many snowmobilers.
Access to controls
Thanks to the rider’s positionning on the snowmobile, he has a very easy access to controls for mileage, clock, hand and thumb warmers and headlight. The pilot can make changes easily just with the touch of a finger.
Riding position
I noticed during my rides that I could choose among three positions : maximal forward body position for a more aggressive riding, body far from the front end for a more relaxed riding; knees bended and chest forward. The pilot can switch positions in order to get a more enjoyable ride and less fatigue at the end of his day.
La Voix des motoneigistes wishes you a great snowmobiling season. Ride safely, your life is important to us.
