Ski-Doo 2022 Renegade Enduro 900 ACE Turbo-130 – Pre-ride analysis

This year again, I have the great privilege to test a new snowmobile as part of the long term testing program. This will be the fourth consecutive year with our partner Les Motoneiges Géro, a BRP dealer in Saint-Jean-de-Matha.

Our test model is one of the most popular on Quebec trails, the 2022 Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro, and we chose the new 900 ACE Turbo-130 engine.

Here are its main features.

900 ACE Turbo Engine

For 2022, you can choose between two 4-stroke turbo engines: the 900 ACE Turbo-130 (130 hp) and the turbo R (180 hp). The previous turbo offered 150 hp and the new Turbo 130 offers the same number of hp as the 1200cc BRP. According to BRP, this turbo is more efficient and lighter than its predecessor (150 hp) and its fuel consumption is close to the naturally aspirated 900 Ace.

To power this engine, BRP is back with its ITC system and has made some changes to obtain more predictable accelerations, especially in sport mode. We also find the two other modes: Eco and Standard.

BRP is also back with the pDrive pulley that has already proven itself.

Furthermore, in order to extend the life of the drive belt, BRP made a modification to the motor brackets, making them more rigid.

REV GEN 4 chassis with expanded design

Starting in 2019, Ski-Doo snowmobiles with 900 ACE Turbo engines are assembled on the REV GEN 4 chassis with an expanded design. The side panels are wider than the narrow version for E-TEC engines, so they offer additional protection from wind and weather. We still have the same ergonomics with the Ergo-Step panels that allow us to move easily on the snowmobile. The look is really impressive and will still turn heads.

Standard equipment

Traction is normally provided by the Ice Ripper XT 137X15X1.25 track; however, due to the short supply of this type of track, our snowmobile will be equipped with the Ripsaw 137X15x1.25 track.

For 2022, this snowmobile will be equipped with the new display introduced in 2021, a 7.8″ wide color LCD screen with BRP connect.

This dial allows us to customize the information we want in addition to displaying the route and linking it to our smartphone. You can also configure the gauge to display differently depending on the ambient light. It also has the automatic option and the dial adjusts itself.

The display can be adjusted from a wheel located on the left in front of us on the cabin.

You will also find an electric starter and an electromechanical reverse gear.

The Renegade Enduro also comes with two linQ attachment kits and adjustable mirrors.

Finally, we mustn’t forget the heated seat which will be much appreciated, especially at the end of a cold day.There is also a heated cell phone case in the compartment under the windshield and a usb plug to connect it.

Suspension

Our test snowmobile has a new suspension introduced in 2021.

At the front, the RAS X allows you to change the distance between the skis by offering 3 possibilities: 42.1 – 43.0 – 43.9 inches. Normally, most of BRP’s other snowmobiles have a 42.4-inch gap.

At the rear, the rMotion X with controlled air shock (ACS).

On the ski side, we find the new Pilot TX ski that allows us to adjust the grip of the carbide rails according to our preferences.

This suspension impressed me in 2021 by its performance and comfort. Since the Enduro also has an ACS shock absorber, I can only imagine how comfortable this snowmobile will be.

OPTIONS

This year, thanks to our partner, the Motoneiges Géro, we have the chance to try many accessories with the snowmobile. Here is the list:

  1. LED auxiliary front light system
  2. Long range LED headlight
  3. Tunnel snow scraper
  4. Adjustable windshield from medium to high (19″ to 23″)
  5. visor plug

Things to be monitored during my long term test

In order to give you the best possible report on this model, here are the specific items I will be checking throughout the season:

  1. Performance of the 900 ACE Turbo engine in all 3 driving modes in this first year of production;
  2. Fuel consumption;
  3. Performance of the new front and rear X suspension with ACS shock absorber;
  4. Use of the new LCD display;
  5. Integration and use of accessories;
  6. Driving the snowmobile with Pilot TX skis;
  7. General reliability and maintenance of the snowmobile.

In closing, I would like to thank Les Motoneiges Géro inc, BRP dealer in Saint-Jean-de-Matha, for the loan of the Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro 900 ACE Turbo-130 for a long term review. I invite you to go meet the Géro team in store to see the new Ski-Doo products and Can-Am off-road quads.
