Presidential Message :Kap Sno-Rovers Snowmobile Club

Hi everyone, hope you had a fabulous summer.  The Kap Sno-Rovers Snowmobile Club is getting ready for another great season during which we will be undertaking a $54,000 upgrade to the eastern part of our TOP A trail thanks, in part, to a grant from the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs.

We will be adding culverts and raising sections of the trail that are lying low in swampy land.  This will ensure that our groomers are able to break trail earlier in the season without getting stuck.  The first phase of the operation will begin west of Gurney Road as soon as the ground freezes and should be completed within three of four days.  The second phase will involve work west of Gurney Road and will necessitate the closure of part of the trail in the January-February time frame.  Traffic will be retoured along L135 (Paul Guertin Memorial Trail) for a few weeks while a considerable amount of digging, ditching and filling work is done.  During this phase of the trail improvement project, I would ask that you be patient and respect the detour.  As a result of this project, in subsequent years, we will be able to open our TOP A trail earlier in the season.

Pictured above is the 2013-14 Kap Sno-Rovers Snowmobile Club’s ten member Board of Directors which is now down to seven.  From left to right, front row, are Robert Roussy (President) and Ted Dambrowitz (Vice-President).  In the back row are Tony Urbas, Jules Lauzon, Marc Piché, Jos Matko and Jim Mangan (Secretary-Treasurer).  Like many local volunteer organizations, the club is experiencing difficulty recruiting members willing to occupy leadership roles.  If you are an avid snowmobiler and are ready to invest some time to assure the availability of good quality local trails, contact one of the directors or call 705-335-2055.

On our TOP A west trail, thanks to the cooperation of the town of Kapuskasing, a large section of the ditch running along Highway 11, through the municipality, was filled during the past summer.  Hopefully, in the near future, the remainder of the highway ditch from Mill Street to de l’Étang Boulevard will be filled.  This will result in a longer season for all snowmobilers.

At the present time we are looking for groomer operators, trail patrollers and members willing to sit on our Board of Directors.  If you are interested in volunteering for these or other positions, please contact any member of the Board of Directors or call the club at 705-335-2055.  Be assured that you will be welcomed with open arms.

Let’s hope that Mother Nature will once again bless us with the white stuff that allows us to prepare great riding trails for all of you.  See you on the trails and ride safely.
