Polaris Titan Adventure 2018 – Pre-ride Analysis
Polaris decided to innovate for 2018 by introducing the Titan. Innovates, not only because the Titan is a new model for the Minnesota manufacturer, but because they created a whole new market segment with this model. Indeed, until now no manufacturer had ever put on the market an extreme crossover with those unmatched capabilities! Polaris has succeeded by adapting its famous AXYS platform for the Titan. Add to that the powerful 800 Cleanfire engine, a passenger seat and a cargo space and you get one of the most versatile and unique snowmobiles on the market. Here is the pre-ride analysis of the Polaris Titan Adventure 2018.
Platform and suspensions
The Titan is based on an adapted version of the AXYS chassis. It has been designed to accommodate a 20'' x 155'' x 1.55'' track. This platform should offer an excellent maneuverability both on and off trail. The Polaris Titan Articulated Rear Suspension is designed for smooth riding on trails and can absorb off-road bumps with 41.9 cm (16.5 in.) of rear travel. According to Polaris, no adjustment is needed when switching from solo to 2-up riding, or when hitching a heavy load. The articulated section is very useful when backing up in deep snow.
For the front suspension, the Titan is equipped with the high-performance and adjustable FOX QS3 Clicker shocks. The tool-free adjuster allows simple and repeatable suspension adjustment. This gives us a wide variety of compression settings that should provide outstanding handling in all conditions. The Titan Adventure comes with the PRO-Float skis that work well in deep snow.
Engine
The Polaris Titan Adventure 2018 is equipped with the proven, powerful and high-performance 800 Cleanfire H.O. engine. The power of the engine with a new transmission gives it an impressive towing capacity of 1200 pounds (544.3 kg). The Alpha Titan transmission provides a range of speeds to suit all driving conditions and extreme situations. This transmission offers the following transmission ranges: High, Low, Reverse and Neutral (H-L-N-R). It is designed and built to provide reliable performance when towing and transporting heavy loads. This is what we will validate during our test.
Equipment and options
The Polaris Titan Adventure 2018 is a snowmobile that comes standard with an impressive list of equipment. It has an extra high windshield, an electric starter, and an impressive 53-liter fuel tank.
The Lock & Ride Versa Touring passenger seat is standard on the Titan Adventure model. The passenger seat is equipped with hand warmers and an RCA plug. Footrests for the passenger are included to improve comfort and safety. Heated driver and passenger seats are available as accessories.
This snowmobile is equipped with an innovative and exclusive storage system. The Lock & Ride Versa storage platform optimizes the convenience and safety of cargo transport. This system offers the best transport capacity in the industry with 38.5 kg (85 lbs). Its integrated design allows maximum storage, with or without the passenger seat, and the platform is designed to hold two 5-gallon buckets or to carry the equipment you want. This heavy-duty, weatherproof, high-capacity load box can be installed/removed in seconds without tools.
A 10.9 cm (4.3 ") high-resolution color LCD digital display provides all the information the driver needs. It even includes a Bluetooth functionality to communicate with the driver's cell phone and provides notifications for incoming calls or text messages. It even displays the signal strength and battery level of the phone! A compass is standard and a full GPS can be installed to provide directions and information about services like gas stations, restaurants, accommodations and even Polaris dealerships.
As you can see, the Polaris Titan Adventure 2018 is a very impressive snowmobile on paper. Will it meet our expectations? This is what we will see in our test.
