Davidson Wins Vet 30+ Crown, Bunke is Second in Pro 600 Points
Gabe Bunke won the highly competitive Pro 600 race by less than a 1-minute margin to finish second in the Pro 600 points standings and fellow Polaris racer Corey Davidson won his fifth Vet 30+ race of the season to wrap up the points championship in United States Cross-Country (USCC) racing held March 15 in Warroad, Minnesota.
Other Polaris racers who won at Warroad included Derrick Gust in Semi-Pro 600, Bill Thomas in the Masters 40+ race and Mitchell Thelen, who won the Juniors 10-13 race.
Bunke Moves Up to Second in Points
Bunke closed out a strong season by winning the Pro 600 race at Warroad to leapfrog his way to second in the season points standings. Bunke won two of the final three races of the season to move up in the standings. Only a sub-par finish in the mid-season, multi-day I-500 kept him from challenging for the class points title. Corey Davidson finished fifth in Pro 600 points and Aaron Christensen was eighth.
In Pro Open, Davidson, Bunke and Christensen finished 4-5-6, respectively, in the season points standings.
Gust Wins Semi-Pro 600 at Warroad
In Semi-Pro 600, Gust earned his first victory of the season at Warroad, giving him three straight strong finishes. Gust finished fourth in Semi-Pro Improved points and fifth in Semi-Pro 600. Jesse Thelen was third in Semi-Pro 600 at Warroad.
Polaris racer Dustin Holmstrom finished fourth in Semi-Pro 600 points, just four points out of third, and Ken Christensen was sixth in points.
Davidson Clinches Vet 30+ Title
Davidson went to Warroad tied for the lead in Vet 30+ points, and he beat his rival by 42 seconds to secure the season points title. Fellow Polaris racers Nick Uhde, Jason Dobmeier and Jeff Klein finished 3-4-5 at Warroad. That outcome put Dobmeier third in class points while Klein was fifth.
Polaris racer Paul Anderson finished second in points in Fan 600 and third in Legends 50+, and in the Masters 40+ class, Ken Christensen was second in points and Bill Thomas used his victory at Warroad to clinch third place in points.
