It’s known as one of the most scenic parts of the beautiful Granite State, and residents there simply love the sport of snowmobilingAfter a combination event with the Quebec-based SCM circuit in upstate New York, teams and officials from East Coast Snocross (ECS) will head for Ossipee, New Hampshire, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 15-16, for Round 3 on the nine-race 2010-2011 schedule.
Spectator gates will open at 10 a.m. each day, with racing getting under way at 11 a.m. Admission is $15 per day for adults, while children age seven and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes valid through the weekend will be available for an extra $10.
This exciting weekend of snocross competition and freestyle is brought to you in part by the Greater Ossipee Area Chamber of Commerce; Samantha’s Inn, the Yankee Smokehouse and the Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club. Leading the charge into Ossipee are Pro riders Mathieu Morin and Danny Poirier. The two highly-skilled veterans split the Pro finals in the season opener at Burke Mountain, and are expected to battle side-by-side all season long for the coveted ECS championships.
Some of the other Pro division riders fans can expect to see compete in Ossipee include New York natives Jason Stone (Central Square), Corin Todd (Otego), Michael George (Pine Plains) and Jason Rudd (Rodman); former champion Jason Boron; factory-supported Minnesota natives Matt Piche (Polaris) and Matt Pichner (Arctic Cat); and Swedish rider Emil Ottosson (Arctic Cat).
In the talent-laden Semi-Pro division, fans should keep their eyes on athletes like Lucas Brunelle, Jacob Muller and Ash Woskob. Muller and Brunelle split the Stock finals at Burke, while Woskob posted second and third place finishes to start his sophomore season of snocross in impressive fashion.
Along with plenty of competitive snocross racing in the Pro, Semi-Pro, Sport, Women and Junior divisions, fans in Ossipee will also witness three gravity-defying freestyle shows by the Maine-based Rave-X Outer Limits Freestyle Tour.
The boys at Rave-X are bringing their group of skilled athletes to thrill fans with two shows on Saturday, and they’ll hit the ramp once again on Sunday. The tricks and stunts thrown down by the folks from Rave-X will have Ossipee fans talking all winter.
Ossipee truly is a four-season paradise, nestled between the beautiful Ossipee Mountain range and crystal clear lakes and rivers. Spring and summer boast of many activities, including hiking, biking, water sports, fishing, golf and tennis.
In winter, snowmobile enthusiasts can ride through White Lake State Park and across the Ossipee Mountains onto a wide network of groomed trails. The Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club (OVSC) maintains trails in the Ossipee, Tamworth, Wonalancet, Conway (Corridor 19) and Whiteface Intervale areas of New Hampshire. The OVSC trail system travels across Rte. 16 from White Lake State Park (at Canoe King) to the North and South on Corridor 19.
East Coast Snocross, presented by Woody’s Traction & AMSOIL, is the new sanctioning body for snowmobile racing in the northeastern United States. ECS maintains a regional circuit intended to keep grass-roots snocross racing healthy in this part of the snowbelt, while also cultivating new talent for tomorrow’s factory-backed Pro teams.
