Concrete Jasper jacket and concrete/power lime Sutton pants by Olympia

This year was a strange season. It all started well when I was given the opportunity to try an Olympia jacket and pants. This jacket, on paper, had a lot to offer. So, I was looking forward to trying it out on the trail! Unfortunately, in my beautiful region of Montérégie and for lack of time, it was a late-season start! Not to mention a rather early end of the season because of our beautiful virus… I’m glad that this outfit didn’t disappoint me because the big test was done during the 2020 Snowshoot!

This kit was tested in all kinds of conditions. Some mornings, it was -20 degrees Celsius, and during the day, it was around -1 to -2 degrees Celsius. We rode at full speed, over bumps and sometimes with utility vehicles. As a photographer during this Snowshoot, I had to stand still, while waiting for snowmobiles to photograph passing in front of me, for several hours.

Here are my impressions!

Olympia Jacket

What I expect from a premium coat is to be warm, no matter what the condition. Olympia doesn’t falter in the task. This is one of the best insulated and waterproof jackets I have ever worn. The collar is just long enough to cover the neck without taking up too much space at the bottom of the helmet and limiting movement in sporty riding. To properly seal the top of the coat, in addition to the zip, we have magnets and snaps. The extra warm lining is not only removable but can also be used as a jacket. A large amount of storage spaces and all the accessories are of high quality.

Benefits:

  • Warmth and waterproofness
  • Lining can be used as a real jacket
  • 15 pockets and compartments in the shell and lining
  • Phone pouch
  • Zippered ventilation
  • Cloth to clean visor and goggles
  • Quality kill switch clip

Pay attention to:

The lining can sometimes come off when the jacket is removed, so fasten the sleeves securely inside the shell.

Sutton Pants

I loved these bib pants with their suspenders. I used, in the past, pants that stopped at the waist. These pants not only have suspenders that can be tied to the belt, but the shell goes all the way up to the torso. More warmth, extra pockets in the top and, moreover, these pants offer a range of adjustments of the suspenders, waist, and the bottom of the pants to ensure a good fit from the bottom to the top.

Benefits:

  • 5 pants pockets
  • Removable inner lining
  • ZIP from top to bottom on the side of each leg
  • Bidirectional central zipper
  • Several adjustments at the boot level
  • Adjustment and clip on the suspenders
  • Shockproof absorbent material in the knee area
  • Very warm with the lining and can be removed for warmer days

Pay attention to:

The power lime color can be messy for those who like to do mechanical work on the side of the trail.

Sutton pants – Big advantage with the adjustable suspender system. Everything stays put!

In closing, I would like to note that another interesting facet of this type of jacket is that it’s not specific to a snowmobile brand. If you want to change the brand in the year, there is no need to change the jacket with it! Otherwise, what impressed me the most about this outfit was its warmth, versatility in removing the linings, lots of adjustments, and endless storage.
