New Brunswick promotes International Snowmobile Safety Week

Snowmobile Safety week serves as a reminder to the people who operate snowmobiles of the importance of observing the rules and regulations, which are in place to better ensure their safety," said Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General John W. Foran.

The 50-member volunteer-based snowmobile clubs making up the federation join other organized snowmobiling groups across Canada annually to recognize the week.

"From hotel rentals, gas purchases, meals and other entertainment-related expenses, the snowmobile industry generates significant revenue and is an essential component of New Brunswick’s four-season tourism approach," said Tourism and Parks Minister Stuart Jamieson.

Two primary safety programs are promoted throughout the snowmobile season:

Safe Riders, You Make Snowmobiling Safe; and
Zero Alcohol, Your Smart Choice.
More than 80 per cent of snowmobilers recognize the Safe Riders logo and understand the campaign.

"The campaign is very straightforward and brings to the forefront the need to analyze risks and not take improper risks while snowmobiling," said Ross Antworth, federation general manager.

The International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association, the International Association of Snowmobile Administrators and the Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations support the programs, efforts and positive results that organized snowmobiling brings to New Brunswick
