Renegade E-TEC: after many years of expectation, here is a successful technology!
Finally in 2009 the direct injection technology on 2-stroke engines arrived in the wonderful world of snowmobile. It is BRP, through Envinrude, who first developed with success the required technology on their 2-stroke outboard engines. The obvious follow up was that the Rotax engineers include this new technology on one of their snowmobile 2-stroke engines. So, they proposed the 600 H.O. E-TEC that develops about 120 hp. The Ski-Doo 2009 vintage offered many sled models equipped with this very remarkable technology. The SledMagazine.com Team and I used the MX Z Renegade 600 E-TEC over more than 4 000 miles and thus tested all season long this new BRP low consumption and emission engine.
In addition to the direct injection on this 2-stroke engine, it was our first long-term use of the REV-XP chassis equipped with a 137 inch track. Our black and yellow trial model had optional mirrors, a 1+1 seat, but did not have the electric starter.
