Mid-season review of the Renegade X 2018 850 E-TEC

Mid-season review of the Renegade X 2018 850 E-TEC

The season is moving forward and I am already on my mid-season article. So far, I can tell you without hesitation that I haven't been bored with my new X model snowmobile. I did several rides in very variable weather conditions.

Given these temperature changes, it gave me a good idea of how my snowmobile behaved. So far, I had a lot of fun with this snowmobile.

Snowmobile Mid-season review of the Renegade X 2018 850 E-TEC

New generation

On several occasions, during my stops at certain restaurants and clubs, several snowmobilers approached me. They mentioned to me that my model, with the green color under the chassis and the letters of the same color on the hood, really draws attention. The people at BRP really did a good job!

Impressive engine

Many snowmobiles couldn't start on freezing temperatures. I was nervous in the morning, but I never had any trouble starting the 850 E-TEC. I was very impressed that it started so easily in such icy weather.

Power

I've had the opportunity to drive a snowmobile with the 800 R E-TEC engine in the past, which has given me a lot of pleasure. With the 850 E-TEC, when accelerating, the control system responds immediately with power and that is satisfying to the pilot. When you decrease your acceleration and then start again, you immediately feel the aggressive driving.
Maneuverability

Its 220 kg/485 lb weight is an asset with the new REV 4th generation platform. It was easy on the trail to get maximum control of my snowmobile and especially in curves.

Very little effort and movement were necessary on my snowmobile, it went in the curves like a charm and with precision. After exiting a curve and accelerating again, a sensation of pleasure invades us.

Forward position

This position frightened me a little, I was wondering if during a long ride the pilot could get more tired quickly. During a ride of 300 km, I didn't feel any major fatigue except the one you normally feel during a long ride.

Driver position

Considering that our driving position is a bit more forward, it gives us a better view of the gauge and it is also easier to reach the accessories on the handlebar.

Rear-view mirrors

The mirrors are closer to the driver than before because of the driving position. It allows an easier adjustment.

Track

The ICE cobra track is a plus for the stability of this snowmobile. When negotiating a curve, the rear end remains more stable and the snowmobile is less prone to slipping. On a harder or icy surface, I noticed that when braking the back of the snowmobile remained stable. It is an asset not to be neglected to avoid a loss of control.

Off Trail

I tried it out off trail. It is designed to give its owner the chance to mix trails and off trail rides. It is very maneuverable off the beaten track due to its lightweight of 485 lb. It is easy for the pilot to counterbalance his weight to have fun in the snow.

Gas and oil

For now, I consider that the oil and gasoline consumption is reasonable for a 165 HP engine. During my final article and following the averages recorded during the season, I will be able to give you the exact consumption.

That's what I've seen since the beginning of the season. So far, I've focused on what this snowmobile has given me in terms of fun with the suspension, engine and some components.

For my final article, I will give you my comments on what this snowmobile made me discover on the trail and also what snowmobilers are looking for on a snowmobile.

Following my final article, you will be able to have a precise idea if this snowmobile really meets your expectations.

Don't forget to be there for my last article.

I would like to thank Les Équipements Maniwaki for their trust.
