The seventh annual Winterfest, a gathering of winter sporting enthusiasts, will return to the Manitowoc County Expo grounds at 9 a.m. Jan. 29.
Vintage snowmobile racing at 3 p.m. will headline the day’s festivities. The main event will take place on the third-mile Expo Speedway. Snow is trucked in from around the city to construct the track. Ever-changing track conditions challenge participants as they compete aboard their vintage sleds for the grueling half-hour endurance race format. Entries are open until race day, and multiple class formats ensure everyone a chance at the checkered flag.
The Lakeshore Snowmobile Club will sponsor radar runs throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. The 500-foot track is laid out on a snow-covered, groomed and packed surface for a real world test of machine-tuning skills. ATVs, UTVs and all years of snowmobiles are welcome, with multiple classes available.
The snowmobile show and swap meet, held inside the Merchants Building, attracts a wide variety of sleds from all over the state. More than 60 sleds were displayed last year, and a number of “swappers” had parts, accessories and clothing available for purchase.
While perusing the sleds and merchandise, attendees can pick up a sandwich from the Inland Trail Blazers and refreshments from the Newton Sno-Sports snowmobile clubs.
Admission is $3 and provides access to all of the events held throughout the grounds. For more information, including rules and regulations for the snowmobile race and radar runs, contact the Expo office at (920) 683-4378.
