As decreed by the International Snowmobile Council, this week aims to sensitize snowmobilers about safe snowmobiling practices as well as promoting this winter sport which is enjoyed by more than four million enthusiasts in both Canada and the United States.
Over the course of this week, snowmobile associations and clubs across North America organize special prevention and awareness activities whose purpose is to promote key safety themes. Snowmobilers will be called upon to stop for volunteer trail wardens who will be in out in greater numbers. Fellow snowmobilers, why not take advantage of this opportunity to thank these dedicated individuals who willingly devote their time to educate snowmobilers about safe riding practices?
Among these safe riding behaviours, it is crucial to always remember the following key themes:
|
These major themes are the key points that must be kept in mind at all times. Be a safe rider and insist that those you ride with are as well. If you become aware of a dangerous riding behaviour, either on or off the trail, do not hesitate to raise the matter with the guilty party.
Fortunately, the majority of snowmobilers understand and obey our safety messages, learn to ride in a responsible manner, and travel on our trails. Some do not, however. Some choose to make bad decisions, take foolish risks, or ignore the Federation’s safety tips which could save their lives. The responsibility for the resulting tragedies lies with these individuals and not with the FCMQ, the government, or anyone else. Every snowmobiler must understand that, in the end, he/she is responsible for his/her own safety and riding behaviour.
The Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec (FCMQ) wishes to remind you to behave responsibly while enjoying yourself. Remember, the best rides of all, are those from which you return home safely.
