New Brunswick proudly led the snowmobile community in making Classic and Antique snowmobiles an important part of snowmobiling’s future. Many snowmobile associations struggle with declining trail pass memberships as well as how to categorize vintage sleds. The New Brunswick Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (NBFSC) was the first to pioneer a system that benefited the entire snowmobile community with a WIN, WIN, WIN program.
Classic and Antique snowmobiles are often only seen in museums or at exhibition events
A more fitting celebration is to experience the innovations of the past on the trail and at clubhouses
Often the one size fits all cost of trail passes was prohibitive for the owners of sleds that typically travel much fewer miles. This frequently relegated the gemstones of snowmobile history to limited private property use or even worse to the back of a barn. It also alienated many snowmobilers and snowmobiling families who need to keep the passionate enjoyment of our sport within a Classic price structure.
What if these important categories of snowmobiles were welcomed into the modern snowmobile experience, giving benefits to all?
That was the inspiration of the NBFSC when they first proposed Classic and Antique trail pass categories. During preliminary discussions, there was some pushback from users who felt “everyone should pay the same amount for their trial pass as I do?” With the reasoning that Classic and Antique sleds typically travel fewer miles with less impact to trail conditions, the first of its kind program was adopted.
The NBFSC took a previously disappearing and overlooked segment of snowmobiling and invited them to greater participation with significantly discounted trail pass categories. The result has been an undisputed success and a win for the entire New Brunswick snowmobiling community.
Everybody WINS!
- The NBFSC Trail pass memberships and revenue increased which benefited every aspect of the NB snowmobile experience for all users. Currently 40 % of NBFSC trail passes are in the Classic and Antique categories. The inclusion of Classic and Antique riders has also resulted in a measurable increase in volunteer participation in trail maintenance and club functions.
- Classic and Antique riders They now have a more affordable way to enjoy trail conditions that make the most of their vintage snowmobiles. They also have an opportunity to preserve the legacy of snowmobiling by introducing it to more fellow riders.
- All New Brunswick snowmobilers Everyone enjoys the benefits of increased membership revenues with the added bonus of having the unique opportunity of seeing the proud heritage of our sport in action.
We are all an important part of the passion that is snowmobiling
To learn about and relive the memories of snowmobiling’s past by seeing Antique and Classic sleds in use is a pleasure that is certain to bring a smile to your face. We salute the dedication and innovation of the NBFSC. Nice work, nice results!
