I had doubt about these small screws when you see the track of some snowmobiles equipped with huge durable studs. The first time somebody offered me to install such studs on my snowmobile, I said no.
The sceptic is confounded
Last season, I was about to invest over 100 $ in a track for my spouse’s snowmobile. When I attended the Recreational Motorized Sport Show in Québec City, I saw a stand showing a track with heavy kilometrage, equipped with the smallest iGrip studs and I have been very surprised to see that all studs were still in good condition.
Then, I passed over my scepticism and I decided to install these screws on my spouse’s snowmobile track because she had problem with stabilizing her machine on hardened or icy surface.
Change of name
Here is an important information : the name of the product has been changed from Maxigrip to iGrip.
Description of the screw
The screw has a carbide tip. It is galvanized and has robust threads that keep the vehicle in place under all conditions.
Purchase
The company gave me a kit of 200 screws #HM 25 to test out. It is smaller than the one I was recommended. It is sold about 200 $ but for snowmobile, the price vary from 125 $ to 200 $. This includes the special tool to be fixed to any drill.
It is not so expensive, if you consider other types of studs for which purchase and installation are very expensive. However, they are very efficient.
Installation
I am not a mechanic, but the installation guide is included inside the box. I must say that I spent less than 2 hours installing 200 screws.
Result
After a few rides, my spouse noticed that her snowmobile was more stable in curves, on ice and on hardened surfaces. She regained confidence in her machine and she spent a great season.
Appreciation
I can undestand that I was sceptical at first without having testing the product, but I can tell you that this minimal investment brought satisfying results. My appreciation is not based on the fact that I got these studs for free; if the results had been otherwise, I would not have written this article.
