Grand Prix Ski-Doo Valcourt, a must!
Last weekend was the 37th edition of the Valcourt Ski-Doo Grand Prix presented by Intact Insurance on the famous Yvon-Duhamel circuit in Maricourt. Founded in 1983, it is evident that the popularity of this event is continuously growing. Despite the cold and wind, many spectators came to the Grand Prix to enjoy the show.
And we can say that we are spoiled when it comes to competition! We could see as a discipline the motorcycles and ATV, Snocross and Snow bike, which has been added to the program last year, and, of course, the snowmobile on an oval track. It is always awe-inspiring to see these Snocross pilots jumping in the air over 90 feet. They are professional, and you can see that they have been training a lot.
The snowmobile on an oval of ice is undeniably one of the most exciting disciplines. With a length of ½ miles, the top speed of these vehicles in the pro-field class is close to 170 km/h. It’s Formula 1 on ice! At this speed, the error margin is tiny, so it takes an incredible concentration from the riders. You must be there to appreciate this show because the sound is intense!
Motorcycles and ATVs are just as spectacular to watch on the oval track. It takes an excellent control of the vehicle. We can also notice that the equipment is specially designed for this purpose, particularly for the tires, where we could see the number of screws required. When we visited the paddocks, it was also clear that it was necessary to be well equipped and to be supported by reliable sponsors because a racing season costs a lot of money.
The organization thinks of everything to make sure visitors are comfortable. A large tent was set up in which people could eat, drink, warm up and even watch shows. There were also a few clothing stores on site with many exciting discounts. The pilots were generous with their time by attending an autograph session to the enjoyment of adults and children.
Outside, two fireplaces were available to fight the cold. The little ones also had something to enjoy. There was a giant snow hill where you could slide, and inflatable games for the pleasure of the children. We could even try to operate a power shovel! Fun even for the grown-ups.
If you never went to the Valcourt Ski-Doo Grand Prix, you must put this event on your calendar for next year. The 38th edition will be held from 7 to 9 February 2020. With its reputation and organizational expertise, it is normal that the Valcourt Ski-Doo Grand Prix remains the most important winter motorsport event in the world.
