This is the 32nd edition of the Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt. I had the chance to represent SledMagazine.com at the press conference that has been held Wednesday morning. At first, the President of the Grand Prix expressed his gratitude to all the partners and government levels who support this event; it could not happen without them.
Did you know that for the last 20 years, the Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt has raised money for En Coeur, Fondation québécoise pour les enfants malades du coeur ? Over the years, the volunteers of the Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt collected more than 165 000 $, which represents average annual donations of 8 600 $. This event gives back to others and they should be proud of it.
Here are three famous racers who attented the press conference.
Stevens Marquis:
Stevens is a short 16 year old pilot. He races in the 500 Sport and 500 Semi-Pro classes. A top speed of 150 km can be reached in these classes. As Stevens said : «It takes nerves to keep your machine on track».
Danny Poirier:
Danny is from the region of Valcourt. He participates mostly to the US ECS Pro Open Snocross Circuit, where he is currently 1st at points. If everything goes well, he could be the next champion of his class.
Jacques Villeneuve:
At 60, the indestructible Jacques Villeneuve is a very popular pilot of the Province of Québec. He talked to us about his accident of last year in Valcourt and the difficult rehabilitation that followed. He had a triple fracture on one leg, 8 broken ribs and a broken clavicle. All these injuries took very long to heal, but last week, he proved his competitiveness when he finished 1st in qualifiers and 2nd in final.
These three pilots promised a very spectacular Grand Prix.
The Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt is scheduled on February 14-15-16 2014 and a large variety of activities will be offered. Click on www.grandprixvalcourt.com to see detailed information.
I wish Mother Nature will be on our side. At the moment, the site is ready and accessible directly by snowmobile.
The snocross racing track has been redesigned and pilots will face new challenges.
Have a great Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt !
