Last Tuesday, snow falls surprised many car drivers; however, since the SledMagazine.com team was ready, we began our 2008-2009 season.
Indeed, on Wednesday October 22nd early morning, I realized a quick investigation in order to know the real conditions in La Redemption and Sayabec areas. Knowing these informations, Mr Dany Boucher, from Auto Design in Rimouski, and myself decided to spend the afternoon on the St-Pierre Mountain (Also called Le Radar)
After taking the snowmobiles out of the garage and on the trailer, we were leaving for this great adventure!
When we arrived, there were about 9 to 10 inches (20-25 cm) of snow on the ground and its texture was no problem to sled traffic. Even so, we will stay alert and we will ride safely.
Even if a few 4X4 and VTT have already ridden on the way leading to the mountain top, I am surprised that ground and rocks are completely covered with a nice snow hardened in the «tracks» left by the wheels.
After a few kilometres, we stop to savour the moment and to realize that we are riding our snowmobile on October 22nd. This is not an usual trip.
We have been able to reach many popular sites, such as the 2 transmission Hydro towers, the Lac Alfred observation site, the «4 ways». At this last point, we encountered a trucker who just brought a tractor to open the road, probably in order to allow the transportation of wood before the official arrival of winter.
We rode more than 54 km in this dream scenery before taking the trail back home. All the way back, we talked about the luck we had to live this unique experience. Our heads were filled with beautiful images of snowy mountains and panoramas.
